Tampa Bay Buccaneers: A Sneak Peek at the Carolina Panthers Matchup

The Tom Brady era for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not start like many were hoping. Tampa Bay was on the road against division rival the New Orleans Saints. It was the game that everyone wanted to watch. It matched up two future Hall of Famers in Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Brees won round one between these two teams that will meet in Tampa later this year. The reason for the Buccaneer loss was stupid mistakes with penalties and turnovers. The penalties came mostly from Jamel Dean. The turnovers came from Brady with two interceptions and one on a muffed kickoff that I believe was the last nail in the coffin. Many say that Tampa Bay did not play well enough to defeat the Saints. The Bucs will now have their home opener as they host NFC South rival the Carolina Panthers.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have a new quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater replaced Cam Newton and was the backup to Drew Brees with the Saints in 2019. The Panthers like the Buccaneers lost in week one. Their defeat came at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Panthers only lost by four points 34-30. Here are four things they will need to be better against Tampa Bay. The first is too many missed tackles. At times against the Saints, the Bucs broke tackles and made plays. The Panthers also had trouble getting after the quarterback. The Saints had three sacks and two turnovers against the Bucs so the offensive line for Tampa Bay is a weakness. The other two are both offensively with the Panthers wide receivers having a bigger game and Bridgewater throwing the ball deep. If the Bucs have the same problems in the secondary both will be fine.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Like I mentioned before in the Buccaneers can avoid dumb mistakes they can get in the win column in week two. Not all was bad for Tampa Bay in week one. The defense played the best they could when they need to. Brady despite having the two interceptions had two touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. He came out and led the Bucs right down the field for the only lead. Head coach Bruce Arians said that both interceptions were Brady’s fault. On the other hand, many fans say they were not. The running game was ok but good. Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette were both featured. In the passing game, Mike Evans did not have a catch until the end of the game. Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard had solid games. The Bucs will need all three sides of the ball clicking so they defeat the Panthers.

This game that will kick off at 1 PM EST at Raymond James Stadium should be a good one. It will like last week in New Orleans and Carolina, there were no fans in attendance. I think that Teddy Bridgewater and Tom Brady will both have good games. We all remember that there was no preseason for these teams to find their groove. Also, both defenses will be better and the one that does that will help their team win. The Buccaneers will not make the same mistakes this week and the Panthers are not as good as the Saints are. I am not saying they are a bad team. The Bucs are stronger than the Raiders. In the end, let us see what happens on Sunday.
