Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow has Impressive Night Despite Loss
The Cincinnati Bengals dropped to 0-2 with a 35-30 loss against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night at First Energy in Cleveland, Ohio, but Joe Burrow was very impressive in this game for Cincinnati.
Burrow could have led them to a game-winning drive in last Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers, but an A.J. Green touchdown was called back due to pass interference and Randy Bullock also missed a field goal.
They also played well enough to lose this game, but they have a winner in Joe Burrow at the quarterback position.
He is the heartbeat of this football team. Burrow has a light of bright years ahead of him.
Burrow completed 37-of-61 passes for 316 yards passing and three touchdowns. He threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Uzomah in the second–quarter, a 4-yard touchdown pass to Mike Thomas in the fourth quarter, and a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd. Joe Burrow also rushed for 19 yards on seven carries though.
Even though they lost this game, Joe Burrow is a spirited competitor and a true leader on this football team. It is very rare for a rookie to be named a team captain.
This team needs a major overhaul on the defensive line before he gets his rear end killed though. Even if they have another bad season, they won’t need to address the quarterback issue. The Cincinnati Bengals can very well look at the offensive line position and one of the guys they could potentially draft is offensive tackle Penei Sewell from the University of Oregon.
Joe Mixon was the leading rusher for the Cincinnati Bengals with 46 yards rushing on 16 carries. He also caught four passes for 40 yards receiving.
Tyler Boyd caught seven passes for 72 yards receiving and a touchdown. He is 25 years old.
Drew Sample caught seven passes for 45 yards receiving.
C.J. Uzomah caught four passes for 42 yards receiving and a touchdown. He left the game in the fourth quarter due to an Achilles injury. Uzomah was carted off the field.
Tee Higgins caught three passes for 35 yards receiving. Higgins might be Burrow’s future number one wide receiver target though. He was the 33rd overall pick (second-round) selection from Clemson University. Tee Higgins is 21 years old.
Mike Thomas caught four passes for 31 yards receiving.
Giovani Bernard rushed for three yards on one carry. He also caught five passes for 22 yards receiving. He is 28 years old.
A.J. Green is 32 years old. He caught three passes for 29 yards receiving. Green could potentially be traded at the trade deadline though.
Burrow is 23 years old and he is only going to get better with games and reps. Joe Burrow is already proving a lot in the first two games. He may not be the worst quarterback in the AFC North and that may belong to Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns though.
Joe Burrow could potentially run away with the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award though.
