Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3 Studs Versus the New Orleans Saints

A new era began for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. They welcomed in the GOAT Tom Brady. Many Bucs fans and their front office were tired of having losing seasons they made some major changes. Along with Brady they also picked up Rob Gronkowski, LeSean McCoy, and Leonard Fournette. The Bucs would head to New Orleans where they play another future Hall of Famer in Drew Brees and the Saints. The Saints have won the NFC South three years in a row. Many say the team that could challenge the Saints in 2020 would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This sportswriter was a watch party full of Bucs fans that blew the roof of the place when Tampa Bay took the field this afternoon. It was not the best start for the Buccaneers but there were some positives.

Drew Brees

In seems that every game that Brees plays in he breaks another record. Sunday he passed Brett Farve on the all-time pass attempts list. Brees returned with all of his weapons like Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas just to name a few. This would also be the first of two battles between him and Brady in 2020. He has very well against the Buccaneers in his career. Brees was 18 for 30 for 160 yards and two touchdown passes. Many believe this will be the final year for Brees no matter what happens. If he continued on what he did today the Saints are in good shape.

Saints’ Defense

If you look at the game the Saints defense gave up 325 yards of total offense. Many would say how would consider them a stud. This is why they also picked off Tom Brady’s choice one for a pick-six. When they had to make stops they did just that. The Saints defense also held the Buccaneers to just 23 points. Tampa Bay was also held just under 30 minutes on time of possession they totaled 28:37. Tom Brady at times was frustrated and showed it. The Saints defense kept him off and seal a week one win.

Tom Brady

I am sure that many were hoping that Tom Brady would bring his great play and wins to the Buccaneers. Well, it did not start off as many had hoped. On the other hand, he did have a good game. Brady accounted for three of the Tampa Bay touchdowns. He threw for two and ran for one. The one rushing touchdown came on the Bucs’ first possession. Where it went wrong was that he threw two interceptions. For this sportswriter, it looked like neither were his fault. He went 23 of 36 for 239 yards. The Saints defense made plays when they had too or the Bucs would have won.

This was the much see game of the afternoon schedule in the NFL. I believe it lived up to the hype. The Saints team showed why they are still the top team in the NFC South. If the play like them did today we might see them in the Super Bowl this year which is Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers had some positives today Brady was one and the defense did their job outside of some dumb penalties. I can see the next matchup between these two teams in Tampa has a different result. The Buccaneers will have their first home game next week against the Carolina Panthers. The Saints travel to Las Vegas to play the Raiders.
