New England Patriots: Taking a Peek at the Miami Dolphins
As a sports fan, I was extremely worried when the coronavirus hit. Not just in the sports realm but how hard it has hit everyday life. I did not think there would be sports at all this year. We now sit just three days away from the start of most of the NFL season. For one of those teams, a new era is beginning. The New England Patriots for the first time in many years will not have Tom Brady at the quarterback position. Bill Belichick is the greatest coach of all time and he seems to win with whoever is in uniform for him. The Patriots did not waste much time and getting Brady’s replacement. It looked like it might be Jarrett Stidham but he had an injury. New England named free agent Cam Newton as a captain and starting quarterback.
The Patriots begin their 2020 season against a division rival in the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff is scheduled at 1 PM EST. It will be taking place at home at Gillette Stadium. Just a year ago the Dolphins beat the Patriots and it knocked them out of the top two seeds in the AFC playoffs. That result had them play against the Tennessee Titans and the Titans beat them and New England fortunes forever.
Many people believe that the Patriots are not going to win the AFC East this year. Those individuals believe it will be the Buffalo Bills. The one thing I will be looking at is the health of Cam Newton’s shoulder. If he stays healthy I do not see too much of a fall-off for the New England Patriots. They will be hosting a young team in the Dolphins. The same Dolphins that picked Tua Tagovailoa in the draft.
He will not be starting this game as the Dolphins have decided to go with crafty veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick started for the Dolphins last year in the win that I mentioned earlier. Brain Flores the Dolphins head coach would love to start the new Patriots off with a loss. They run a balanced offense and will come right at the Patriots defense. A defense that will be without many of the starters from last year either from them leaving or opting out because of coronavirus. On the other hand, we know in some cases Fitzpatrick is not the best at the start of seasons. I know he had a great start a few years ago with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This team is young and I think is a few years away. New England also is trying to figure out what team they are.
One of the main reasons why Brady left was because other than Julian Edelman he had little weapons. I look for the Patriots to focus on the running game with James White and Sony Michel. I think it will all come down to Cam Newton. As a fan of the Patriots, I am looking forward to seeing what is going to happen. He brings a different kind of dramatic to the game. Look for him to be a big part of the game plan. I believe this game will be a good start for both teams. It will probably be a little sloppy in the start with no preseason and very little offseason. This will be a classic AFC East game. I think it will be close and it will go back and forth. I am looking forward to seeing both New England and Miami.
