Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leonard Fournette Will be a Great Fit
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to try and make sure they make a stand for a chance to be the first-ever host of the Super Bowl. During the offseason, they acquired Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, LeSean McCoy, and now Leonard Fournette. It seems that the Bucs had a weakness at the running back position. So they when out and sure it up with McCoy and Fournette. Head coach Bruce Arians still say that third year running back Ronald Jones is going to be a starter. It will help to have two guys that have experience behind Jones. This is the same Ronald Jones that had a horrible rookie season and made some improvements last year. The one thing that he still lacks is pass blocking. This is very important now with Tom Brady at the helm. Many can see Jones and Fournette is a one-two punch.
The question that was brought to me was how will Leonard Fournette improve the Buccaneers running game? He has two 1,000 yard rushing seasons. No Buccaneers running back has that since Doug Martin. Fournette is a power downhill runner he has been that way since playing at LSU. Many Tampa Bay fans haven’t had a set of running backs like this since Warrick Dunn and Mike Alstott. I am not comparing Alstott to Fournette they play a different position. I am not saying that Jones is better than Dunn either. Just at the time, the Buccaneers had Dunn like Jones that would get the yards needed. Than Alstott would get the tough yards and Fournette could be used the same way. The run game was a problem last year making the Bucs one dimensional of the offensive side of the ball.
McCoy is another back that can spell Jones and Fournette. He can also help in the pass-catching game. Brady has always had running backs that can catch the ball out of the backfield. While in New England he had many most recently James White and Sony Michel. This helps keep opposing defenses on their toes. Fournette will help Brady also in pass blocking. This will help the passing game and give more opportunities to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate, and Rob Gronkowski. This offense can now score points and will not put pressure on the defense which will result in more wins. With more wins, it means that the playoff drought could come to an end. Arians has this team moving in the right direction. Fournette is another piece that can help the Bucs moving forward.
The question that I have been hearing on local sports radio in the Tampa area is how is everyone going to get the touches they deserve? My answer is when you have a guy like Tom Brady as your quarterback and Bruce Arians as your head coach they will make sure everyone gets their touches. I am excited to see this Buccaneers team coming up this Sunday. The Bucs are primed and if they can stay away from injuries and coronavirus they could go far in the playoffs. That could lead to them returning to the Super Bowl which they have not been since 2002. Super Bowl LV is in Tampa, Florida this year. At present, no team as ever hosted a Super Bowl. Will the Tampa Bay Buccaneers be the first to do that?
