Yannick Ngakoue Adds to Loaded Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings might have even gotten better upfront on the defensive line, with two weeks to go until the regular season. Minnesota acquired defensive end Yannick Ngakoue from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2021 second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick, which could land as high as a third-round pick.
Ngakoue was franchised tagged by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the offseason. He felt displeasure by the franchise and he wanted out. Yannick Ngakoue will get new life with a talented Minnesota Vikings team that is in win-now mode.
He will be paired up with Danielle Hunter, who is one of the best defensive ends in the NFL. Ngakoue is only 25 years old.
Yannick Ngakoue started in 15 games last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had a 23-yard pick-six, six pass deflections, four forced fumbles, one forced fumble, eight sacks, 41 tackles, and 13 of them were for a loss.
Ngakoue is going to be very effective with his new team. The entire Jacksonville Jaguars defense that was on the AFC Championship Game Team in 2017 is now all gone.
He was the heartbeat of that defense though. At least Yannick Ngakoue will have a new beginning moving forward with this team here.
The Jaguars lost that game 24-20 to the New England Patriots when Blake Bortles was the quarterback.
The Minnesota Vikings will open the season against the Green Bay Packers on September 13th with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Eastern on FOX at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Minnesota lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round last season 28-10.
Mike Zimmer, the head coach, is going to love his new defensive player. His son, Adam Zimmer, is the defensive coordinator.
Gary Kubiak is the offensive coordinator after Kevin Stefanski left to be the new head coach for the Cleveland Browns in the offseason.
This Yannick Ngakoue trade will help Minnesota and they are in win-now mode. Ngakoue still has to sign his tender and it is less than $17 million.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on the story and league sources told ESPN of this move. However, we will see what happens in the long run though.
The Minnesota Vikings are a defensive first team before getting things done on the offensive side of the ball.
They have the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions, and the Chicago Bears to worry about in the NFC North. It is important to get a pass rush in the NFL, especially against players like Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, and Mitchell Trubisky though, and whoever else they face and play this season though.
I would not be surprised to see Yannick Ngakoue and Danielle Hunter end up as one of the best defensive end tandems in the NFL.
