Why Brodie Van Wagenen May Have Saved Baseball
New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has had his shares of criticism with horrible trades and signing free agents that have not panned out. However, he was caught on a hot mic on Thursday before the supposed Miami Marlins and New York Mets game that was set to take place at 7:10 p.m. Eastern.
However, at around 7:15-7:20, Michael Wacha was going to throw out the first pitch of the game for New York, but everyone left the field and New York Mets outfielder/first baseman Dominic Smith put a shirt on home plate that said, “Black Lives Matter.”
He and Michael Conforto and others on the roster spoke to the media after that. Michael Conforto is the heartbeat and heart and soul of this baseball team though nonetheless. He has been an excellent spokesperson for this franchise though.
GM Stands Up
As for Van Wagenen, he criticized MLB commissioner’s Rob Manfred’s leadership and also his boss, Jeff and Fred Wilpon. Brodie Van Wagenen apologized after the tirade, but he wasn’t wrong about the Wilpon’s or Manfred either.
Van Wagenen criticized Manfred’s leadership because Brodie Van Wagenen already knew that the players weren’t going to be playing in the game and also claimed that Rob Manfred doesn’t get it when it comes to this stuff.
The fact that he called out Manfred shows that he is the worst commissioner in all of sports. If Rob Manfred cared about anything, he would have called off all of the games for a day or two, just like what the NHL and NBA have done, but Manfred did not get pressured at all by the outside media.
This could maybe Rob Manfred out as the commissioner of baseball once and for all.
Also, the Wilpon’s wanted the Mets to walk off the field for an hour and then come back and play at 8:10 p.m., and that was also not happening either.
Good news for New York Mets fans is that there will be final bids for new ownership on Monday, August, 31.
Brodie Van Wagenen knows that he is probably gone as the general manager of the Mets once knew ownership arrives. Whether that is Steve Cohen, Jennifer Lopez/Alex Rodriguez, or Josh Harris’s group.
What was even more embarrassing was that The Wilpon’s in a press release spelled his name wrong. The Wilpon’s sided with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred immediately.
The New York Mets and the New York Yankees are scheduled to start a four-game series starting at 4:05 p.m. Eastern on Friday, but we will see if there are potentially more protests and postponements with these games. The second game of the doubleheader will be at 7:05 p.m. Eastern.
The Yankees will be the home team in the first game. The Mets will be the home team in the second game.
All of the games will be played at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York, though. We will see what happens throughout this weekend though.
