Contenders and Pretenders of the 2020 MLB Season

The MLB Trade Deadline will be Monday, August 31. This shortened season is only going to last 60 games. However, we know who will potentially make it to the playoffs and we will see who doesn’t. There are contenders and pretenders in each league.

American League

In the American League, the serious contenders are the Tampa Bay Rays (21-11), the New York Yankees (16-11), the Minnesota Twins (20-12), the Cleveland Indians (19-12), and the Oakland Athletics (22-10).

The other teams that are projected to make the playoffs as of right now, but I don’t think they are serious contenders this season are the Chicago White Sox (19-12), Toronto Blue Jays (15-14), and the Houston Astros (17-14).

Three to four teams that could make a push late: The Baltimore Orioles (14-16), the Detroit Tigers (13-16), the Seattle Mariners (13-20), and the Kansas City Royals (12-19).

National League

In the National League, the serious contenders are the Los Angeles Dodgers (24-9), the Chicago Cubs (18-12), and the Atlanta Braves (18-12).

The other teams that are projected to make the playoffs as of right now, but I don’t think they are serious contenders this season are the Miami Marlins (14-12), the St. Louis Cardinals (11-11), the San Diego Padres (19-14), the Colorado Rockies (16-15), and the Philadelphia Phillies (12-14).

Three to four teams that could make a push late: The New York Mets (13-16), the Washington Nationals (11-17), the Milwaukee Brewers (13-17), and the Cincinnati Reds (13-17).

Final Push

This is the only year they are going to go with eight playoff teams in the American League and the National League. They only have five teams usually that make it to the postseason and there are potential talks for a bubble for the postseason.

We thought that baseball wasn’t going to complete the season with all of these outbreaks, but they have decided to go through with it anyway though.

The MLB postseason is the heart and soul of the MLB season though. It should be an exciting time once again when we reach it though.

This is how the standings look at the moment right now though. We will see how the final month of the regular season pans out after the trade deadline though.

September Stretch

There is still a ton of meaningful baseball left in the month of September. It will be one of the craziest finishes to these races and the finish line ever in MLB history though.

Baseball is one of the best sports to watch on TV though, especially when it gets to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see which stars are going to be in the postseason field this season though.

It is going to look disgusting to a lot of baseball fans this season when MLB commissioner Rob Manfred hands out the World Series Trophy to a team this season though. This is going to be fun to watch down the road though.
