Florida Gators: A Look Ahead to a Possible 2020

The Florida Gators are coming into the 2020 season on a hot note. The past two years they had 10 win seasons and two major bowl wins to their credit. This year will be a bit different because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will just be an all in-conference schedule. The only game that they might play out of the conference is the Florida State Seminoles game which always takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That game is still up in the air. Since they cannot play out of conference games they added two additional SEC teams. Those teams are the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas-AM Aggies. This will make up a 10 game season. With the SEC Championship game on December 19th. Hopefully, the Gators will be there as the team coming out of the east side of the conference. At this moment the SEC is still willing to play.

I have been a Florida Gators fan since I was very young. There are always two games that I look forward to being the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida State Seminoles. With the Seminoles game in jeopardy, the Bulldogs game is always a classic. This game takes place on a neutral site in Jacksonville, Florida. It has been called the “Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party”. The past few years the winner has been the team that plays for the SEC Championship. Looking at the schedule the Gators have three huge games. Those games are against the LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Tennessee Volunteers. The Tigers are fresh off a National Championship and the Bulldogs have kept the Gators out of a shot at the SEC Championship. The Volunteers have always been a rival and had a great end to their season in 2019.

The Gators season will begin against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats ended the Gators winning streak a few years back. That will be a game to tune into. The games after the LSU Tigers will be against the Missouri Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels. I believe that both of those games are winnable. Then they play the South Carolina Gamecocks which is another winnable game. The games against the Arkansas Razorback and Vanderbilt Commodores will also be winnable. The game against the Texas A&M Aggies will be a challenge at the end of the year. That game is on the road in College Station. Many will say this team can go undefeated and I am not saying that is not possible. I can see Florida going 8-2 or 9-1. Either three of those scenarios would be fine with me.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 not playing at all during the fall, they plan on playing in the spring. It will be hard to crown a National Championship. If there are any major bowl games I can see the Florida Gators being in one of them. This is a good team again this year with maybe the only issue might be at the wide receiver position. This team is going to be a force once again. Dan Mullen as the Gators back and looking like they make a push to win it all very shortly. We will all have to sit back and see what decisions are made over the next few weeks before we kick it all off.
