South Florida: A Look Ahead to a New Season With Bulls
The USF Bulls already had the odds against them when the schedules were announced they had the second hardest schedule. COVID-19 now has forced the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to play just in-conference games. So now they will not play the Texas Longhorns, Bethune Cookman Wildcats, and Nevada Wolf Pack. This means the season will not start until September 26 against the Florida Atlantic Owls. The Owls are not on the AAC but they are in the same state as the Bulls. At this very moment head coach, Jeff Scott is ready and eager to get his Bulls on the field. With the Owls, it would be a nine-game season but after reading many articles it would only be eight games. Those opponents will be ones that the Bulls are familiar with seeing. The game that we all look forward to is on black Friday against the UCF Knights.
When the schedule first came out I said the Bulls at the best would be 6-6. It would be nice to see the USF in a bowl game. The reason I said that is the last two seasons. Those of course where under Charlie Strong. In 2018 the Bulls started off with seven straight wins and then lost their final six.
The last loss came in Gasparilla Bad Mowers City Bowl to Marshall Thundering Herd. The biggest sting was that it was at Raymond James Stadium where the Bulls play their home games. Last year was miserable! The Bulls were 5-7 and the best home win was against the SC State in which they won 55-16. The offense struggled and was unable to sustain drives in which little to no points. The game against Cincinnati Bearcats lost on a game-winning field goal.
The top teams in the AAC have to be the Cincinnati Bearcats and Memphis Tigers. The Tigers will have a new head coach as Mike Norvell took a new job with the Florida State Seminoles. I will also not forget the UCF Knights who had good seasons over the past few years.
The Bulls have an eight-game season let see how many they will win. The games that I believe they will win will be against East Carolina Pirates, Temple Owls, and the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. The ones that might go one way or another is the Cincinnati Bearcats, Houston Cougars, and Navy Midshipmen. The ones that I do not think they will win is against the Memphis Tigers and UCF Knights.
The best the Bulls will do will be 4-4 or 5-3. This will be a true test for Coach Scott and a young Bulls team. Maybe the USF Bulls will have some surprise wins in 2020. I hope they can get revenge win against the Bearcats. I have the honor of covering the Bulls and that one upset me the most.
The Bulls will have an uphill battle against the Midshipmen and Cougars. Those two games are in back to back weeks on 11/14 and 11/21. After those two games, they get the UCF Knights and in my eyes, they will have another loss to the Knights. I know there are miracles that happen in sports and maybe the Bulls can finish the season 6-2. It will be an entertaining season in 2020 with everything
