Who Should Be the NBA Team That Moves to Seattle?

The Seattle Supersonics was once upon a time a hot commodity in the NBA. They were a franchise from 1967-2008, but then they moved to Oklahoma City to be the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With an NHL team coming to Seattle after the 2020-2021 season at the new Climate Pledge Arena, is there a current NBA team that could pack up and move from their original city?

The first team that comes to mind is the Sacramento Kings. They have some up and coming stars on that team. Sacramento is the fourth most famous team in their own state.

The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers are all more cared about than the Kings. Other than the Sacramento Kings, they also have minor league baseball but that’s about it.

Sacramento has not been to the playoffs since 2006 and they lost that series in five games against the San Antonio Spurs.

It would be good for the Sacramento Kings to get out of California and bring in a new state of the franchise. They have been in Sacramento since 1985.

Some of the key players on their roster are: De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, Harrison Barnes, Kent Bazemore, Buddy Hield, Nemanja Bjelica, and Alex Len.

As of right now, they are on the verge of missing the playoffs again. They are 28-36 so far this season and Sacramento is currently 11th in the Western Conference. The Memphis Grizzlies (32-33) eighth seed, Portland Trail Blazers (29-37) ninth seed, and New Orleans Pelicans (28-36) 10th seed are all ahead of them in the standings.

Luke Walton is currently the head coach for this basketball team. Walton is in his first season with the club after he was fired from the Los Angeles Lakers job last season.

The current owner for this Sacramento Kings franchise is Vivek Ranadive. I think it would be a great business decision for the franchise.

He is the heart and soul of this franchise. Ranadive needs to consider making this move.

A few other potential candidates that could move to Seattle: The Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Pelicans, and Orlando Magic.

I think it would be cool to see an NBA team back in Seattle sooner rather than later. We’ll see if it ever happens again though. This would be an amazing story for the NBA.

There is a reason why the Sacramento Kings are never on TV. If that franchise moved to Seattle, they would be on national TV a couple of times a season. Sacramento is just not a good marketing town at all for basketball. If they were known as the SuperSonics, they will be all good in time.

What would you think of an NBA team moving back to Seattle to become the SuperSonics? Leave a comment below.
