NBA: Will the League Go With 22 Teams?

The NBA will most likely have a plan in place by Thursday when it comes to restarting the NBA. On Monday, I decided to write about what I think the NBA should do. Now, it appears as if they are going to go ahead with 22 teams moving forward.

Along with the 16 postseason teams, the other six teams will be the Washington Wizards, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Phoenix Suns, the Sacramento Kings, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the San Antonio Spurs.

Some owners think that all 30 teams should come back, due to small market reasons, but I don’t think it is necessary for some of these teams to even return to play at this point.

At some point in July, they will be playing games in Orlando, Florida. The NBA Playoffs is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of the NBA season. We will see what happens.

It is still undecided on whether or not they would reseed by the entire league or if they are going to do just the top 8 seeds in each conference.

With the east just having Washington its extra team from that conference, makes me wonder if they are going to go a west-east merger for the postseason. However, how many of these teams are there just to help out some other teams for exhibition reasons?

Well, at least it is not all 30 teams and I am wondering if they are just going to jump straight in the playoffs or if they will have a play-in tournament.

There a lot of scenarios that need to be figured out, but it is becoming picture clear what is happening with them right now.

Maybe they will have all 22 teams participate in the postseason and have some play in games for seeding. Maybe the 15th-22nd best teams in the NBA will be the four play-in round games. The top 14 teams will then receive a bye.

If we decided to do the 15th-22nd seeds based off byes, the matchups would be 22 Washington Wizards (24-40) vs 15 Brooklyn Nets (30-34) 21 Phoenix Suns (26-39) vs 16 Orlando Magic (30-35) 20 San Antonio Spurs (27-36) vs 17 Portland Trail Blazers (29-37) and 19 Sacramento Kings (28-36) vs 18 New Orleans Pelicans (28-36).

Maybe I messed up the playoff format, but this is what it would look like. The NBA still has a lot to figure out in this situation and I think it would be fun to see. The NBA invited these teams back bases off of win percentage.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has done a phenomenal job with this as in trying to figure out what to do with the play. At the end of the day, we will see who comes out on top as the NBA Champion.

I bet people can not wait to bet on the NBA Champion. Once the NBA announces the resume date or the plan to return to play, I am sure that people will make bets. I will probably write about something in regards to the NBA favorites to win the 2020 NBA Title.

What do you think of the potential 22 team plan for the NBA to return this season? Leave a comment below.
