Chase Brice: Possible Transfer Destinations For 2020
The transfer portal is a great place for college football players to explore their options when things don’t go as planned at their original college destination. Sophomore in 2019, quarterback Chase Brice from Clemson has entered the transfer portal and will be looking for a new home for the 2020 college football season. In two years at Clemson, he has gone 82 for 136 for 1,023 yards with nine touchdowns passing. Chase Brice has also run the ball 30 times for 187 yards and one touchdown. He was a three-star quarterback coming out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia and now is a graduate transfer from Clemson.
He will definitely have some teams looking to land him as their signal-caller. Chase Brice came into the Syracuse game in 2018 when quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down and Brice led a game-winning drive as a freshman. So where will he end up in 2020? Let’s take a look at possible transfer destinations for Chase Brice.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
For Chase Brice, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons make sense in the fact that he will really only have to compete with one quarterback on the roster. Sam Hartman will enter 2020 as a junior and comes into the college football season having thrown for 2,814 yards. Hartman also has 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in two years at Wake Forest. Hartman looks to be the only competition for the starting quarterback job for Chase Brice if he decides to transfer there.
Wake Forest has two freshmen that will be sophomores in 2020 in Michael Kern and Leo Kelly that look to be question marks on if they can challenge Sam Hartman. Chase Brice could certainly challenge for the Wake Forest starting QB job and would help increase the team’s win total from 2019 to 2020. With this option, he stays in the familiar ACC conference as well and would face his old school in the Clemson Tigers. This destination holds questions but is a very intriguing option for Chase Brice. Next up we go north to Big Ten country for the next college football team.
Michigan State Spartans
For Chase Brice, landing in East Lansing makes sense because he was offered by Michigan State University coming out of high school. Most of the staff that recruited him is still there and he’s a great fit for the Spartans. Chase Brice is an upgrade over outgoing quarterback Brian Lewerke and better than the remaining Spartans quarterbacks. Brice brings experience and talent at the QB position to Michigan State. Rocky Lombardi is a solid backup, four-star sophomore Theo Day is a prospect that needs development, and three-star quarterback Payton Thorne does as well.
Chase Brice has a 60 percent career passing percentage and can take advantage of the weapons at Michigan State. Jayden Reed, Tre Mosley, Jalen Nailor, and young running back Elijah Collins are all solid players that would surround him in East Lansing. Look for Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio to go after Chase Brice because the former Clemson Tiger may be what the Spartans need behind center. Next, we go to the sunshine state for a reunion and possible transfer destination in 2020.
South Florida Bulls
Co-offensive coordinator at Clemson Jeff Scott was named head coach at South Florida on December 9th, 2019. A reunion of sorts makes sense for both Jeff Scott and Chase Brice in 2020 to help a down Group of Five program. In 2019 the USF Bulls went 4-8 and needed to bring in people with winning ways. First, they brought in Coach Scott and then they hired Daquan Bowers former Clemson Tigers defensive end as the defensive line coach. Could Chase Brice be the next Clemson connection brought in?
Brice would exponentially improve the quarterback room for the South Florida Bulls. Currently, USF has two-star quarterback Augie Debiase, three-star Jah’Quez Evans, two-star Kaden Frost, and Jordan McCloud, a three-star who was last year’s starter. McCloud had 1,429 yards, 12 touchdowns, 8 interceptions passing and 283 yards rushing with four running scores. Chase Brice is more polished and knows the system better than all of those quarterbacks. Brice also brings a championship pedigree and culture from Clemson he can help instill in the South Florida Bulls program in 2020. Big changes could be happening in Tampa, Florida for USF this college football season for the better.
Honorable Mentions: Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Oregon Ducks, and LSU Tigers.
Wherever Chase Brice chooses to go, the program is getting a solid athlete and person. There are plenty of schools that could use his talent and he could very easily succeed wherever he ends up. I can’t wait to see what the 2020 college football season holds for Chase Brice and what his next destination is.
My Prediction: Michigan State Spartans
