New York Giants Need to Hire Matt Rhule on Tuesday as their Next Head Coach
The New York Giants are scheduled to meet with Baylor Head Coach Matt Rhule on Tuesday for the head coaching vacancy. Rhule was once the offensive line coach of the New York Giants back in 2012. He is also from the area and Matt Rhule has also dreamed of having this opportunity.
He has fixed two college programs overnight in Temple and Baylor. In 2013, the Owls went 2-10. He then went 6-6 in 2014 and then went 10-4 in 2015 and 10-3 in 2016.
After Matt Rhule coached at Temple, he departed for Baylor. The Baylor Bears were almost dead in the water as a football program before he revived it. Baylor was 1-11 in his first year. They were 7-6 in 2018. The Bears were then 11-3 this season. Baylor had a chance to be in the college football playoff this season, but they didn’t because the Baylor Bears lost to the Oklahoma Sooners twice.
But still, it is amazing the kind of work that Rhule has put in. He is the kind of guy that can change the culture overnight for the New York Giants.
They have only won 12 games in the last three years. They have lost 36 games which is the most in the NFL in that span.
Matt Rhule is the alpha male in the locker room that this team desperately needs. Assuming he impresses in the interview on Tuesday and I think he is going to, New York should hire him on the spot. They should forget interviewing with New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels on Wednesday.
The Giants are interviewing with New England Patriots Special Teams Coordinator Joe Brady on Monday.
New York has also interviewed Dallas Cowboys Defensive Backs Coach/ Passing Game Coordinator Kris Richard, Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Baltimore Ravens Defensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, and Mike McCarthy.
However, McCarthy was scheduled to have a second interview with the New York Giants, but he was hired by the Dallas Cowboys to be their next head coach on Monday morning.
He took a year off from coaching after being fired as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers the year before. Dallas made the right move here.
The Washington Redskins also hired Head Coach Ron Rivera last week. Rivera was an excellent hire for them because he coached for the Carolina Panthers for a lengthy period of time. Ron Rivera helped them reached a Super Bowl. They lost Super Bowl L to the Denver Broncos by a score of 24-10, but he has proven to be successful time and time again. A lot of Carolina Panthers players were not happy when he didn’t get fired.
Washington and Dallas now have their head coaches moving forward. The New York Giants need to take care of business with Matt Rhule.
If they can’t get Rhule to be the new head coach, it will appear as if this franchise has taken a major step backward.
Matt Rhule is interviewing with the Carolina Panthers on Monday. It will be interesting to see what happens and if Carolina impresses him. Rhule might want some power in controlling personnel, however.
Tuesday will be a very interesting day for New York Giants fans, NFL fans, and the New York media market because of the Matt Rhule drama that could potentially unfold.
Who do you think should be the next head coach of the New York Giants? Is Matt Rhule your choice? Leave a comment below.
