Chicago Blackhawks Rally Against the Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. Detroit is the worst team in the NHL and one of the reasons why is because of how bad they play in the second period.

Chicago struck twice in the second period and then Adam Boqvist scored the go-ahead goal for the Blackhawks 8:47 into the third period and Chicago was able to take down the Red Wings by a score of 4-2.

Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews had assists on the goal.

Dominik Kubalik scored an empty-net goal for the Chicago Blackhawks with 20 seconds remaining in regulation. His goal was assisted by Zack Smith.

Filip Zadina scored 3:21 into the game for Detroit. Dylan Larkin and Filip Hronek each had an assist.

Luke Glendening scored a goal for the Detroit Red Wings with 3:07 remaining in the first period. Patrik Nemeth and Darren Helm assisted on the goal.

Dylan Strome broke the ice for Chicago with 4:53 remaining in the second period. Alex DeBrincat recorded the assist on the goal.

Dylan Sikura scored his first goal of the year for Blackhawks 45 seconds later. The goal was assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Patrick Kane.

Jimmy Howard recorded 23 saves for Detroit.

Corey Crawford recorded 19 saves for Chicago.

The Detroit Red Wings have by far the worst record in the NHL so far this season. Their record is 10-30-3 with 23 points so far this season.

The New Jersey Devils have the second-worst record in the NHL so far this season. Their record is 15-20-6 with 36 points so far this season.

It is a shame that Detroit has become one of the worst franchises in the NHL. The Red Wings have not made it to the playoffs since the 2015-2016 season. They need to be good once again because the NHL excels when they are good.

Detroit is known as a hockey team and it isn’t a good look for the league when they aren’t good. It is very surprising that Head Coach Jeff Blashill is still coaching this team. I know they are rebuilding, but something has to give.

They should get the number one pick automatically in the upcoming 2020 NHL Draft. The Detroit Red Wings continue to have things go against them and it will be interesting to see if they make some trades or not at the trade deadline on February 24.

The Chicago Blackhawks remain in last place in the Central Division with a 19-18-6 record with 44 points so far this season, but they are not far out of a playoff spot.

They are only five points back of the Edmonton Oilers (22-17-5 record with 49 points so far this season) for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Chicago is eight points back of the Dallas Stars (24-14-4 record with 52 points so far this season) for the third spot in the Central Division.

The Winnipeg Jets (22-16-4 record with 48 points so far this season) is in fourth in the Central.

The Minnesota Wild (20-17-6 record with 46 points so far this season) is in fifth in the Central.

The Nashville Predators (19-15-7 record with 45 so far this season) is in sixth in the Central.

Chicago is currently 15 points back of the St. Louis Blues (26-20-7 record with 59 points so far this season) for first place in the Central Division.

Detroit and Chicago will play each other one more time this season.

The Detroit Red Wings next game will be at home against the Montreal Canadiens (18-17-7 record with 43 points so far this season) on Tuesday night.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ next game will be at home against the Calgary Flames (22-17-5 record with 49 points so far this season) on Tuesday night.
