Sugar Bowl: Looking Ahead to Georgia Bulldogs vs Baylor Bears
The Sugar Bowl game kicks off on January 1st. It will be taking place at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. This is the home of the New Orleans Saints. The kickoff will be at 8:45 PM EST. It will be a battle between the SEC and Big 12. The SEC will be represented by the Georgia Bulldogs. Meanwhile, the Big 12 will be represented by the Baylor Bears.
Both teams played in their conference championship games. They had the same fate as being defeated. The Bulldogs fell to the LSU Tigers who are now playing for a national championship. The Bears lost to the Oklahoma Sooners who got blown out by the LSU Tigers in the Peach Bowl. Another similar stat the two teams share is their record coming into the Sugar Bowl. They are both at 11-2. That means they will be looking for a 12-win season.
The only two losses that the Bears had came to the same team. That would be the Oklahoma Sooners. Baylor was the surprise team in the Big 12 this year. Now they didn’t just cruise through the season. In five games it was very close and could have gone the other way. This program continues to recover from the dark days of sexual violence that haunted the university. This season has shown that the team has turned the corner. In fact, ESPN College Gameday was at their game when they played the Sooners at home. That game they lost just by three points. The game was closer than many thought it would be. In the Big 12 Championship game, they lost in overtime by six points. So, nine points separated them for possibly being in the college football playoff. Now they get ready for the Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.
The Bulldogs also have two losses. One loss was a surprise. That came in mid-season against the South Carolina Gamecocks. It came in overtime 20-17. Many of the Bulldogs fans called it a fluke. Two weeks later one of their big wins came against the Florida Gators in the biggest outdoor cocktail party in Jacksonville, Florida. The wins were a 24-17 win. The score was not as close as the game. The Bulldogs dominated keeping the Gators offense off the field. Their second loss came in the SEC Championship game to the LSU Tigers. The final score was 37-10. They will try and recover from what many say they are struggling with. Being beat by 27 points in the title game showed that. Now the Baylor Bears will not be an easy task. They will have to play a good game, or it could be a bad Sugar Bowl.
This is another game that could be close or end up being a blowout. Both teams had played well during and deserve to be playing in the Sugar Bowl. If things had gone a unique way maybe they would have been playing the college football playoff. The Georgia Bulldogs and Baylor Bears fans are ready for their time to shine in the Sugar Bowl.
