Florida Gators: Good, Bad, and Ugly vs Florida State Seminoles

The Florida Gators have a 10-win season in Dan Mullen’s second year. They accomplished that by beating in-state rival the Florida State Seminoles. The Gators beat the Seminoles 40-17. This was the first time the Gators beat the Seminoles in Gainesville since 2009. To me, this was a statement win within the rivalry. Both teams hate each other as I said earlier in the week when you ask a Seminoles fan who they hate more the Gators or Hurricanes, the unanimous answer is the Florida Gators.

The Florida State Seminoles will be going to a bowl game as they had six wins before the game. The question for them is who they are going to hire as their head coach. The game was close in the beginning when the score was tied at seven. After that, the Gators blew it wide open. This is great for the Florida Gators.

Good: Gators Overall Game

The Gators played a great overall final game. On offense, they had 40 points and held the Seminoles to 17 points on defense. Most of the yards on offense came via the pass. The Gators had 390 passing yards. On defense, they allowed only 250 yards most of those yards were also in the air with 181 yards. The Gators possessed the ball for 33:54 and held the Seminoles to just 26:06. The Gators were 8 for 16 on third down conversations and the Seminoles were 5 for 14. Florida was 2 for 3 on fourth down conversations and the FSU was 1 for 1. This was great for the senior players for the Gators going out the way they did. Rivalry wins are just as important. The Gators now turn their attention to a major bowl game. If they play like they did last night, it will be great.

Bad: Florida State offense

The offense for the Seminoles has been bad all season. One of the main aspects is giving up sacks. They gave up eight sacks Saturday night. Many drives the Seminoles quarterback was on the turf. I made a friendly prediction that the Gators would win 42-14. I was very close. The Florida Gators have a strong defense and I knew the FSU wouldn’t be able to move the ball. With a player like Cam Akers, you should be able to run the ball. The Seminoles only had 69 rushing yards. They will be a different team next year with a new head coach. The offense will have to be because it has been awful for the last two years.

Ugly: Penalties

There were many penalties where hits were made after being out of bounds or after the player was down. One of the Seminoles players got ejected for targeting late in the game. I know these teams don’t like each other but this makes games ugly. As a football fan, you shouldn’t see this. This makes the coaches also look bad. I am sure that both coaching staffs will clean this up moving forward.
