South Florida Bulls: Good, Bad, and Ugly vs the Memphis Tigers

The South Florida Bulls have now lost three in a row. They had another embarrassing showing Saturday night against the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers crushed the Bulls 49-10. The only part of the game where the Bulls looked good was in the first quarter. After that, dominance began. Many of us knew it was going to be a blowout. The Tigers will play the Cincinnati Bearcats in the AAC Championship game.

Now, what do the Bulls do? Will next week be the final week that Charlie Strong is their head coach? This season has been a disappointment. The fans want Strong fired. The problem I have seen is the offense never found its rhythm. Kerwin Bell doesn’t have the players or the offense is to complex. My opinion on Strong is if they get blown out by the UCF Knights then he is gone.

Good: Memphis Tigers Defense

The Tigers held the South Florida Bulls to 10 points. The Bulls had five first downs. USF was only 3-15 on third down conversations. The Bulls only had 170 yards of total offense. The worst part of that is that out of the 170 only 44 yards came through the air. USF didn’t have Jordan Cronkrite or Trevon Sands. The bright part of the offense came from Kelley Joiner Jr. He had 13 carries for 115 yards.

It is very hard to score points and win when you can’t move the ball. This shows how much better the two programs are. The Tigers have been the class of the AAC in the last few years. The South Florida Bulls have a long way to go. This has shown all year for the Bulls. This game shows who the top teams are not only in the AAC but in college football.

Bad: Bulls Defense

This has been a strong point all year. This was a game as a unit they would like to forget. They gave up 560 total yards to the Memphis Tigers. It just was an overall bad night for the South Florida Bulls defense. They allowed the Tigers to have 31 first downs, 9 for 16 on third-down conversions, and 2 for 2 on fourth down conversations. What was the one problem that the USF defense had problems with? That was the run. The Bulls allowed the Tigers 325 yards on the ground. Now they were able to get two early interceptions off Brady White. After that, they were worn out and, on the field, often. We all knew that it was going to be hard to slow down the Memphis offense. They have been able to look good and win games by stopping the other team.

Ugly: Bulls Seniors final home game

This was not the type of game you want to have for the seniors. It is hard because this class of seniors will not go to a bowl game. How would you feel if you were a senior for the South Florida Bulls? I would feel frustrated. In your last game, nothing went right, and you lose by 39 points. After the game head coach, Charlie Strong said he was sad for the seniors. The whole season has been a disaster. With one game left maybe a win could salvage a bit of hope.
