Florida Gators: Good, Bad and Ugly vs the Missouri Tigers

This was the final SEC game for the Florida Gators. They traveled to a place that they had issues with the last few years. Since the Missouri Tigers joined the SEC they have been a thorn in the side of the Florida Gators. The Gators were coming off a third shutout. The shutout came against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game was a defensive game all the way through. The score going into the half was just 6-3. The terrible thing was that the Tigers would only score three more points the rest of the game. The Gators would benefit from some calls and score 17 points in the second half. The Gators would show some offense in the second half. Now they also play defense keeping Kelly Bryant at will. The Gators finished their SEC play with a 6-2 record.

Today’s win was 23-6 win now they get ready for the Seminoles.

Good: Gators Defense

In the first half, the game was dominated by the Missouri Tigers defense. I am not saying that the Florida Gators defense didn’t play well in the first half. Throughout the game, they stood tough. They held the Tigers to just six points. The Gators have only allowed 20 total touchdowns this year. This is the second week in a row they held their opponent out of the endzone. The Commodores had no points last week. The Tigers only had 256 total yards. In seemed they never got into a rhythm. Even when they blitzed, they would force Bryant into throwing the ball away. It got to the point where the Tigers stop running the ball all together except for Bryant. This was the same defense the Gators used all season. The scariest part is many of them are young and will be back next year.

Bad: Tigers Offense

Now, Kelly Bryant was coming off injuring his hamstring. When he was at Clemson, he showed he could run. The Florida Gators knew this. The Tigers had some chances in the red zone but were unable to score touchdowns. They were held under 300 yards of total offense. Now some of their fans will say that two calls in the second half went the Gators way. That is no excuse for how bad they looked offensively. Like I said above they gave up on the run game. The Tigers finished the game with only 52 yards on the ground. The only turnover came on the last drive when Bryant threw an interception. By that time the game was more than out of reach. The Tigers fans were hoping to get a touchdown before the end of the game.

Now they will have to find a way for the rest of the season.

Ugly: 3rd down efficiency for both teams

This game was low scoring and all of us knew it would be. Both defenses played a key role and keeping the score at 6-3 in the first half. The third downs were ugly for both the Florida Gators and Missouri Tigers. The teams combined 8 for 30 on third down conversations. I would be more worried about the Tigers than the Gators because of the final score. The Gators now get a bye week before hosting the Florida State Seminoles. The Tigers have two SEC games left one against the Tennessee Volunteers and the other against the Arkansas Razorbacks. They will need one of the final two to become bowl eligible. I am sure that both teams will be better on third down in their next games.
