Pittsburgh Penguins: Sidney Crosby To Miss Time with Lower-Body Injury
The Pittsburgh Penguins story for the 2019-2020 season so far has been about the injury bug. When it appeared as if everyone was going to be healthy, Patric Hornqvist got hurt and he has been placed on injured reserve.
Kris Letang also suffered a lower-body injury and he is week-to-week. Now, Sidney Crosby is out with a lower-body injury. He suffered the injury in Saturday night’s 3-2 shootout win against the Chicago Blackhawks.
In 17 games played so far this season, Crosby has scored five goals and has recorded 12 assists. His plus/minus is -1.
Sidney Crosby carried this team when Evgeni Malkin and some other key players were out. Now, it will be Malkin’s turn to carry the load for this team.
Crosby will not even travel with the team. The Penguins will play the New York Rangers on Tuesday night and then they will play the New Jersey Devils on the road on Friday night.
It will be interesting to see how long Sidney Crosby is out of the lineup. This is one of the few instances in his career that he is out of the lineup due to a non-head injury. Crosby has had many head injuries in the past that have caused him to miss games.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will miss his leadership when he is out, but other plays are going to have to step up and that is the beauty of this hockey team, which is led by Head Coach Mike Sullivan.
He is going to have to press the right buttons because I do not trust Mark Recchi, the coach who runs the power play, to fix some things up when Sidney Crosby is out of the lineup.
This team will play ten more games this month. I don’t expect Crosby to be back in the lineup on Saturday night at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs or even in the back-to-back against the New York Islanders next Tuesday and Thursday.
It could spell trouble in the long run if he is out for an extended period of time, but I don’t think this team will be.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently in the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference right now with a 10-6-1 record with 21 points. They would face the Boston Bruins if the season ended right now.
Pittsburgh is currently one point back of the Philadelphia Flyers for third place in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins are currently in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
Pittsburgh is four points back of the New York Islanders for second place in the division. They are eight points back of the Washington Capitals for first place in the division.
The Pittsburgh Penguins need to keep on winning games no matter who is in the lineup. Simply put, every night is a tough test and the Eastern Conference Standings is downright brutal.
They are not a bad team right now, but has Pittsburgh shown that consistency and urgency consistently?
We will see what happens with the Penguins when Sidney Crosby is out for potentially a lengthy period of time.
