Phoenix Suns: Is This Team for Real?

There was a time that the Phoenix Suns made it to the playoffs every year when Steve Nash was running the show at point guard and when Mike D’Antoni was the head coach.

Phoenix has not made it to the playoffs since the 2009-2010 season. The Suns actually made it to the Western Conference Finals that season, but Phoenix lost to the Los Angeles Lakers that year.

Ever since this team has been over .500 once and the Phoenix Suns have been in rebuild mode ever since. Phoenix is currently the number two seed in the west and they are 5-2 to start the year.

The Suns took down the Philadelphia 76ers at home on Monday night by a score of 114-109.

A lot of people picked Phoenix to be at the bottom of the Western Conference once again this season. The NBA always has teams coming out from nowhere every single season.

I don’t think anyone was betting on this team to make it to the playoffs.

DeAndre Ayton was the number one overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. This is very strange that they have been winning games without Ayton.

He has only appeared in one game so far this season. DeAndre Ayton scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked four shots, and recorded one steal.

Another interesting reason why the Phoenix Suns are winning so far this season is that teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors have taken steps back.

In the long run, can Phoenix compete with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Houston Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs, the Denver Nuggets, the Utah Jazz, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Portland Trail Blazers?

Monty Williams is in his first season as the head coach of this basketball team.

Devin Booker has been the best player for the Suns so far this season. He is averaging 26.1 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 0.4 SPG.

Aron Baynes has been a factor in the middle for this team so far this season. He is averaging 15 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 3.6 APG, 1 BPG, and 0.4 SPG.

Kelly Oubre Jr. has averaged 17.4 PPG, 6 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.9 BPG, and 1.1 SPG so far this season.

Frank Kaminsky has also been solid for this team so far this season. He is averaging 11 PPG, 6 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 0.1 SPG.

Ricky Rubio has been a good fit with this team so far this season. He was with the Utah Jazz last season. Rubio is a pass-first point guard. He is averaging 12.7 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 8.5 APG, and 1.8 SPG so far this season.

Dario Saric has averaged 8.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 1.4 SPG so far this season.

The Phoenix Suns are currently ninth in the NBA in PPG with 115.0. They have given up the 21st fewest PPG so far this season with 106.4.

Phoenix is winning games by an average of nine points. This team is really improved for now but will see how long this success lasts for.

They could win 30-40 games, but I just think the Western Conference is way too tough for them. If Devin Booker goes down, this team would be in big-time trouble.
