New England Patriots Avoid the Upset Against New York Giants

The New England Patriots were 17.5 point favorites heading into Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants at home. New York and New England at one point were tied at 14 in the second quarter.

At the end of the Patriots defense was too much for the Giants to handle and New England took down New York by a score of 35-14.

Braden Bolden blocked a punt for New England in the first-quarter and Chase Winovich scored on a 6-yard touchdown return and it gave them a 7-0 lead.

Bolden scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the New England Patriots in the second quarter. He finished with 23 yards rushing on three carries and a touchdown. Braden Bolden also caught two passes for 22 yards receiving.

Sony Michel was the Patriots leading rusher with 86 yards on 22 carries. He also caught two passes for 27 yards receiving. Julian Edelman was New England’s leading receiver with nine receptions for 113 yards receiving.

On the next drive for New York, Daniel Jones threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate. Tate finished with six receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Jones was a little shaky in this game. He completed 15-of-31 passes for 161 yards one touchdown and three interceptions. Daniel Jones also rushed for eight yards on two carries.

Jonathan Hilliman rushed for 38 yards on 11 carries. He caught two passes for -3 yards. Hilliman was the number one back in this game because Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman Jr. were both out with injury.

Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard were also out of this game due to injury. The New York Giants are hoping they all come back from injury next week.

Lorenzo Carter strip-sacked Tom Brady in the second-quarter and Markus Golden returned it for a 42-yard touchdown.

Tom Brady scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 36 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Brady completed 31-of-41 passes for 334 yards and one interception. He also rushed for six yards on seven carries and two touchdowns.

Jame Collins forced Jonathan Hilliman to fumble in the fourth-quarter and Kyle Van Noy returned it for a 22-yard touchdown with 8:33 remaining in regulation.

Tom Brady scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 3:49 remaining in regulation.

This was a closer game than people anticipated. The Giants defense played well on a short week. They did sack, Tom Brady, three times and the defense has been better over the past four weeks.

The New England Patriots defense continues to prove it is one of the best in the NFL. Stephon Gilmore might be the best cornerback in the NFL right now. He had an interception in the game last night and Gilmore also deflected another pass that led to another interception.

New England at some point will face a tougher schedule but they have not reached that mark yet. It will be interesting to see how their defense plays against tougher opponents because they might be on their heels all game/day long. The game will be faster for that defense against tougher opponents as well.

New York (2-4) will face the Arizona Cardinals (1-3-1)  at home next Sunday. The New England Patriots (6-0) will be on the road against the New York Jets (0-4) next Monday night.
