Philadelphia Eagles Shoot Down the New York Jets
The Philadelphia Eagles defense would be ready to feast in this game at home against the New York Jets knowing the fact that Luke Falk would be the starting quarterback and not Sam Darnold due to mono. Philadelphia’s defense recorded 10 sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defensive touchdowns in a 31-6 win over New York.
In the first quarter, Jordan Howard scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the Eagles. He finished with 62 yards rushing on 13 carries and one touchdown.
Nate Gerry had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown on the next defensive possession for Philadelphia.
Zach Ertz caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the second-quarter from Carson Wentz. Ertz was the leading receiver with five receptions for 57 yards receiving and a touchdown. Wentz completed 17-of-29 passes for 189 yards one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for five yards on two carries.
Jake Elliott made it 24-0 Philadelphia on a 28-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.
The New York Jets did not reach the end zone until the fourth-quarter when Vyncint Smith scored on a 19-yard rushing touchdown (failed 2-point conversion).
That was his only rushing attempt in the game. Le’Veon Bell was the leading rusher for New York with 43 yards on 15 carries. He also caught seven passes for 45 yards receiving.
Demaryius Thomas was the leading receiver in this game for the Jets. He caught four passes for 47 yards receiving.
Luke Falk completed 15-of-26 passes for 120 yards and two interceptions.
Head Coach Adam Gase hopes that Sam Darnold will be able to return next week, but will see how the week goes for him.
Orlando Scandrick recovered a fumble for the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter and he returned it for a 44-yard touchdown with 7:39 remaining in regulation.
This Philadelphia team might start to get on a roll and they are currently on a 2-game winning streak. If the Eagles are going to play like this, the rest of the league better watch out. The NFC is tough to begin with, and since the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia is tied for first place in the NFC East with Dallas with a 3-2 record.
It is very interesting that the New York Jets have yet to win a game this season. The Miami Dolphins, the Washington Redskins, and the Cincinnati Bengals are some of the other teams in the league that has yet to win a game this season. The Denver Broncos picked their first win of the season on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
It is going to be interesting to see which directions both of these teams go in from here.
New York (0-4) did not expect to have this slow start and some people thought they were going to be a playoff team this season and the truth of the matter is they are far from it.
The Jets will be at home next Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys (3-1). The Eagles (3-2) will be on the road against the Minnesota Vikings (3-2) next Sunday.
