USF Bulls: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs the UConn Huskies
The USF Bulls traveled to East Hartford for their week 6 matchup. They would be playing the UConn Huskies. The Bulls were looking for their first win against a division one opponent since 2018. The team that the last beat was the UConn Huskies. The Bulls finally played a complete game yesterday. They looked good on offense and defense for the first time since the South Carolina State Bulldogs game. The fans of USF football are now hoping this is the game the Bulls can build on. With this win can hopefully come more wins. These teams have the same problems. The quarterback position at both schools has been a revolving door because of injury. They are both coming off blowout losses from the week before. The Bulls and Huskies came in with similar records of 1-3. So, somebody had their second win yesterday.
Good: Bulls Win
Yes, a win for the Bulls against a division one opponent. This is the first time like I said above since they beat the Huskies last year. The Bulls have been struggling with running the ball. This game had 313 yards of rushing. This, of course, is without Johnny Ford who was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. The leading rusher was Jordan Cronkrite. He had 20 carries for 148 yards. This is how most of last year went for him. That was a big part of the 487 total yards of offense. Jordan McCloud started with an injured wrist bust still went 11 for 21 for 157 yards three touchdowns and two interceptions. Remember he still a freshman and will learn not to turn the ball over. Either way, the Bulls played their best game of the season. They will now face the BYU Cougars for homecoming.
Bad: UConn Losing Streak
The Bulls until yesterday had an eight-game losing streak against FBS teams. Now that is nowhere near the Huskies current losing streak. Their losing streak is now at 19 after losing to the Bulls. Now we all know that UConn is more known for basketball than football. The Huskies are moving out of the AAC and to the Big East in football. There are some teams that could help end their streak. If they can get everything right with their quarterback position, they can get a win. They only had 261 yards of total offense yesterday. They were held to zero points in the first and third quarters. The had one touchdown via the pass and two on the ground. If they play games like this the streak will get longer. The next game where they might have a chance to break the streak against UMass.
Ugly: UConn overall game
The Huskies had the Bulls right where they wanted them. The Bulls have struggled all year except against South Carolina State. The headlines in most Tampa newspapers said that if the Bulls had lost it would be the end of head coach Charlie Strong. Now the game was moved up due to a mosquito scare. They only were able to put up 261 yards as I said above. The Huskies only had 84 yards rushing. This means that most of their offense was through the air. Now they did have two rushing touchdowns if you want to take that as a positive. They let the Bulls score 48 points and have 487 yards of total offense. The Huskies will have to a better if they want to end their losing streak. Their schedule is not favorable they could end the streak in late October against the Minute Man of UMass.
