Brooklyn Nets: Begin 2019 Playoff return in Training Camp

The Brooklyn Nets overachieved last season and they went to the playoffs for the first time since 2014-2015. Brooklyn finished with the sixth-best record in the east last season at 42-40. The Nets played hard every single night for Head Coach Kenny Atkinson. They lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in five games in the first round of the NBA playoffs last season, despite winning Game 1 of the series on the road.

General Manager Sean Marks has done a fantastic job fixing up this franchise and he is one of the reasons why Brooklyn was able to sign marquee free agents this past offseason like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. It was very interesting that both of them did not sign with the New York Knicks.

It goes to show that no marquee free agent wants to play Knicks owner James Dolan. In fact, there have been many New York Knicks fans that want him to sell the team. It is going to be interesting to see if Brooklyn has officially taken over the town of New York or not.

Some people they think have. Irving will be ready to go this season and Sean Marks does not expect Kevin Durant to play at all this season because he tore his Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on the road last season against the Toronto Raptors.

Durant was able to help Golden State win two championships in three seasons. He won Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018. Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder after the 2015-2016 season.

One of the interesting things about him is that Durant was actually acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors. It sent D’Angelo Russell to the Golden State Warriors. Russell was an All-Star with the Nets last season for the first time in his career.

When he is healthy, Durant is one of the best players in the NBA. Some people thought he was already better than Lebron James heading into this season, but some people might think it is Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers, who helped lead the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA title in franchise history last season.

The Brooklyn Nets will have high expectations this season, but it won’t be as high until Kevin Durant comes back next season. Brooklyn will probably be a Top 4 team in the Eastern Conference this season even without Durant. The Milwaukee Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Indiana Pacers are probably the three best teams in the east.

The Toronto Raptors will take a step backward even though they won it all and the Boston Celtics will also take a step backwards. Brooklyn might play in the best division in the NBA with Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, and the New York Knicks.

The projected starting lineup for the Nets this season will be (C) Jarrett Allen, (PF) Rodions Kurucs, (SF) Tauren Prince, (SG) Caris LeVert, and (PG) Kyrie Irving.

Key players off the bench will be (F) Wilson Chandler, (F) Nicolas Claxton, (G) Spencer Dinwiddie, (F/G) Joe Harris, (C) DeAndre Jordan, and (G/F) Garrett Temple.

The Nets are going to be a fun team to watch in the present and in the future as well. Brooklyn has not announced a date yet for training camp. They are going to begin preseason play against the SESI/FRANCA Basketball Club of Brazil on Friday, October 4 at the Barclays Center. The Brooklyn Nets first preseason game against an NBA team will be against Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, October 10 at Mercedez-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Brooklyn will begin the regular season at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, October 23.
