Los Angeles Clippers: Sneaking a Peek Into Training Camp
The Los Angeles Clippers overachieved big time last season. I thought they were going to be the 10th or the 11th best team in the west a season ago. However, Los Angeles won 48 games during the regular season. They were the eighth seed in the west and gave the Golden State Warriors all they can handle, but Golden State won the series in six games.
The Clippers will have high expectations this season after signing Kawhi Leonard and trading for Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the offseason. Los Angeles has not been to the conference finals before and this is there best chance too, but the ultimate goal is winning an NBA Title.
Leonard led the Toronto Raptors to its first NBA Title in franchise history last season. He also won Finals MVP. Wouldn’t it be something if Kawhi Leonard was able to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to its first NBA Championship in franchise history this season as well?
Los Angeles will have Doc Rivers around as the head coach once again this season. He is one of the best coaches in the NBA and Rivers has won an NBA title before. It will be interesting to see if the Clippers steal the thunder from the Los Angeles Lakers this season.
When those two teams play each other this season, it is going to be very exciting to watch. These two teams will play each other on Christmas Day and the Los Angeles Clippers will be the home team.
A lot of people are expecting this team to be a Top 2 team in the west this season and maybe even the NBA. One of the things for Los Angeles is that Kawhi Leonard will probably sit some games this season due to load management. That is probably one of the reasons why he wanted Paul George to come to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Leonard and George also grew up in the Los Angeles area. Therefore, they will be the 1-2 punch with this team this season and for the next few years.
Some of the other top teams in the Western Conference this season will be the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Denver Nuggets, the Utah Jazz, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Golden State Warriors. The San Antonio Spurs will most likely also be the other playoff team in the west this season.
Los Angeles has not announced a date yet for training camp. They will be in Hawaii to start the preseason on Sunday, October 6 at the Stan Sheriff Center against a non NBA opponent at 4 p.m. Pacific Time. The Los Angeles Clippers host the Denver Nuggets for preseason on Thursday, October 10.
The Clippers will then play against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center to start the season on Tuesday, October 22. The Los Angeles Clippers will be the home team for that game and it will be the first-of-four games in the battle of Los Angeles this season. Some people think it could be a Western Conference Finals Preview and time will only tell if it is or not.
