Florida Gators: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs the UT Martin Skyhawks
The Florida Gators came into a week 2 with a previous win over the Miami Hurricanes. Now most including myself thought the game was closer than excepted. The Gators played sloppily and still came out on top. They now would have their home season opener. The Gators would welcome UT Martin Skyhawks. Of course, the Skyhawks would come out with some money from the game as well. The Florida Gators paid the Skyhawks $500,000. The Skyhawks are used to playing big teams. They also have the longest-tenured head coach in the Ohio Valley Conference. Head coach Jason Simpson has been at UT Martin for 13-years. The Skyhawks won in week 1 over NW State Demons 42-20. They were up a big challenge against the Gators. Here is the good, bad, and ugly from UT Martin Skyhawks vs the Florida Gators.
The Good: Feleipe Franks
Franks finished the game with the highest completion percentage rating in program history. He finished with a 92.6 completion percentage. Franks went 25 for 27 for 270-yards and 2 touchdowns. The Gators had trouble to start the game but got on track offensively. Franks played a big part of it. They have scored 69 points in their first two games the last two years. The Gators offense had 312 total yards which are second under Dan Mullen tenure. They had 399-yards against Idaho last year which is the most under Mullen. This is good for the Gators moving forward if they established a run game it will make Franks a better quarterback. Now they turn their attention to league play as they head to Kentucky to play the Wildcats. The Gators look to revenge the loss last year.
The Bad: Skyhawks being shutout
Now I know the NW State Demons are nowhere near the class the Florida Gators. The Skyhawks had few chances to score. This team was able to score 42 points last week. The Skyhawk offense only had 194 total yards. The bad part is that they had only 54 yards of rushing. The Gators also had 5 sacks in this game. Against the Hurricanes they had 10 sacks. The Skyhawks also had one interception. Like I said they just didn’t get many chances to score. The good news is that being 1-1 is still good for the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Ugly: There was none
The game was what it was supposed to be. The Gators have these types of games every year. Where they play a team that is far inferior to them. Now the Skyhawks still won even though they didn’t score any points. The team took home a purse of $500,000 as I stated earlier. Both teams will be a huge part of their respective divisions. The Skyhawks are favorited to win the Ohio State Valley. The Gators will have a tougher time they have to beat the Georgia Bulldogs and take down the powerhouse Alabama Crimson Tide. Both teams will take and make improvements for their next games. The Gators will head to Kentucky to tangle with the Wildcats and the Skyhawks head on the road to play the Southern Illinois Salukis.
