Milwaukee Bucks: A Look Inside as Training Camp Approaches

The Milwaukee Bucks had the best record in the NBA last season at 60-22. Mike Budenholzer was in his first season as the team’s head coach. He won the Coach of the Year Award. It will be very interesting to see what he does in his second season with the team.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the NBA right now. He won the MVP Award for the first time in his career last season. I am curious to see this season if Antetokounmpo improved his jump shot. If he did, the Bucks could very well win it all this upcoming season. The last time this franchise technically won an NBA Title was back in 1970-1971 when they were known as the Baltimore Bullets. Baltimore went 66-17 that season.

His outside shot was one of the reasons why Milwaukee did not win the NBA title last season. They lost to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals in six games. The Milwaukee Bucks had a 2-0 series in that series. Teams would always double team him in the paint and Giannis Antetokounmpo seemed lost. I would not be surprised if he won another MVP Award this season.

They traded Malcolm Brogdon this offseason to the Indiana Pacers in a sign-and-trade. I think Milwaukee will regret this. He is a tremendous defender and solid offensive player. Brogdon stepped up big time in the playoffs when he returned from his foot injury.

I don’t think they should have given Khris Middleton a max contract. Middleton disappeared big time in the postseason, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Giannis Antetokounmpo still doesn’t have a true number two player beside him. His contract will be up after next season. The Bucks might need to extend him now before he asks to want out, even though I don’t think he will.

The potential starting lineup this season will be (C) Brook Lopez, (PF) Giannis Antetokoumpo, (SF) Khris Middleton, (SG) Wesley Matthews, and (PG) Eric Bledsoe.

Key guys coming off the bench: (C) Robin Lopez, (G) Pat Connaughton, (G) Donte DiVincenzo, (G) George Hill, (F) Ersan Ilyasova, (F/G) Kyle Korver, and (F) D.J. Wilson.

The Eastern Conference may not be as strong this season like last season. In saying that,  it still won’t be easy for Milwaukee to reach the NBA Finals this season. Although I think they could very well be the number one seed again, but teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, the Indiana Pacers, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Boston Celtics could cause some problems this season.

The Toronto Raptors will be a playoff team this season, but they don’t have Kawhi Leonard around anymore. Toronto won’t be an easy team to play against either.

The Milwaukee Bucks have not announced a date yet for training camp. However, they will begin preseason play on the road on Monday, October 7 against the Chicago Bulls. Then Milwaukee will begin the regular season on the road against the Houston Rockets on Thursday, October 24.

Finally, their home opener will be on Saturday, October 26 against the Miami Heat. The Bucks will have unfinished business to take care of this season.
