NFL: Sneaking a Peek and Predicting the AFC East

The NFL season kicks off in just three short weeks. Every team starts off chasing one goal and that is to win the Super Bowl. Now we all have our team and where we think they will finish the season. Of course, we are hoping our team wins it all. We also are glued to the television hoping the experts agree with us. I am not calling myself an expert but here are my predictions for the AFC East. This will include the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.

New England Patriots 13-3 (Division Winner)

The Patriots enter the 2019-20 season as defending Super Bowl Champions. They defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. The biggest loss for the Patriots is TE Rob Gronkowski he retired. At this point, they have not replaced him. He was a big part of the offensive game and a major weapon for quarterback Tom Brady. The Patriots finished 11-5 last year. They went 5-1 in the division last year. I see them losing three games. The first will come week 2 against the Miami Dolphins because they struggle in Miami. The other two might come against the Eagles in week 11 and the other coming in week 13 against the Chiefs. I am hoping I am wrong on all of those. Look for them to once again steamroll through the AFC East and be crown champs again.

New York Jets 6-10 (2nd in Division)

The Jets finished the 2018-19 season at 4-12. With a new quarterback Sam Darnold, he had a good rookie season. This year they acquired former Pittsburg Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell is one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL. He will help the Jets on offense. They were 1-5 in the division their only win came against the Buffalo Bills. I can see them winning 2 more than they did last year. The Jets don’t have a very easy schedule. They will have some games they can win in the AFC East division.

Buffalo Bills 6-10 (3rd in Division)

The Bills finished last season 6-10. They had some problems all over the team last year. The Bills were 2-4 in the division. At one time many fans waited to see the Dolphins play the Bills. Hopefully, it will get back to that soon. The Bills still have LeSean McCoy but the problems have been at the quarterback position. Like the New York Jets, they have a tough schedule. They have a good chance to win their first two against the Jets and Giants. This will be another season that they can build on moving forward. I could see the Bills winning 6 or possibly 7 games in 2019-20.

Miami Dolphins 4-12 (4th in Division)

The Dolphins finished 2018-19 season with a 7-9 record in the AFC East. They traded for quarterback Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals. The Dolphins will have Ryan Fitzpatrick which was a spark last year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They went 4-2 last year in the division. That included an upset win in week 14 over the Patriots. The Dolphins now have a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. They like the Jets and Bills don’t have an easy schedule. I don’t see them winning a game until week 6. Look for them to use their 19 draft picks in the future to help build this team back up.
