South Florida Bulls: A Look Ahead to the Wisconsin Badgers
There a few college football games that were played last weekend. Now there will be many this upcoming Saturday. On the other hand, the University of South Florida Bulls will start their season on Friday night. They will host Big 10 powerhouse the Wisconsin Badgers. For both teams, this will be a test early in the season. The Bulls and Badgers coaching staffs and players are ready. The game will be taking place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The humid and hot weather of Florida during August will be in place.
The Badgers finished 2018 with a 7-5 record including their bowl game. They only lost three in conference games and one out of conference game. The Badgers have been a team that has been known for their running game. Running Back Jonathan Taylor has been a force to reckon with for many years. As head coach Charlie Strong of the USF Bull said in his press conference Taylor mostly runs between the A and B gaps. He is a downhill runner. Now it doesn’t take just one player to get your team wins, in the end, it takes a whole team effort. Wisconsin began their 2018 season with two straight wins against Western Kentucky 34-3 and New Mexico 45-14. In week 3 at home, they would suffer their first loss to BYU 24-21. Starting conference play they would win two in a row again over Iowa 28-17 and Nebraska 41-24.
The Badgers would then travel to the Big House in Michigan and fall to the Wolverines 38-13. After that, they would come home to host another Big 10 opponent but come out on top defeating Illinois 49-20. The following week they would travel to play Northwestern and fall 31-17. It would be most of the same they would come home and defeat Rutgers 31-17 and then hit the road and fell to Penn State 22-10. With the last two games, it would flip they defeated Perdue on the road 47-44 in OT and lose at home to Minnesota 37-15. After there up and down season they would head to the Pinstripe Bowl to host the ACC’s Miami Hurricanes. The Badgers would easily defeat the Hurricanes 35-3. This year schedule could be another up and down year for Badgers. They have some tough in conference games in 2019.
The Bulls set an NCAA record that we would like to all forget. The Bulls started with a blaze of fire winning 7 straight games. The flame went out in the final 6 games they would lose all of them and finish with a 7-6 record. The record of course also includes the bowl game that they hosted in a Gasparilla Bowl. They would lose to the Marshall Thundering Herd. So after the season was overhead coach Charlie Strong made some changes. The Bulls let former offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert become a head coach at McNeese State. They hired former Valdosta State head coach Kerwin Bell. Bell will bring his spread offense to the Bulls. This is part of the change that needed to be made. The news around the team and from what I have experienced myself the team chemistry is very good.
The Bulls know what they have to do this year and that wins the conference. They will begin with a tough game against the Badgers. Georgia Tech will once again be a test all before conference play begins. In fact, the Bulls can win 8 or 9 this year. Although, the BYU game in mid-October will be a test. Also, the final three in conference games against Cincinnati, Memphis and UCF will not be easy. However, they will be tested in many of the games this year. Look for them to turn the corner from 2018. I once again was given press credentials for the Bulls and I have a good feeling something positive is going to happen this year for the Bulls.
Prediction: USF 34 Wisconsin 31
