NFL: Peeking Inside and Predicting the NFC South Division

The NFL season kicks off in just three short weeks. Every team starts off chasing one goal and that is to win the Super Bowl. Now we all have our team and where we think they will finish the season. Of course, we are hoping our team wins it all. We also are glued to the television hoping the experts agree with us. I am not calling myself an expert but here are my predictions for the NFC South.

New Orleans Saints 14-2 (Division Winners)

The Saints are out for revenge after what happened to them in last year NFC Championship Game. A non-pass inference call kept them out of the Super Bowl. The Saints finished the season with a 13-3 record a year ago. The game that their fans have penciled down is September 15th against the Los Angeles Rams. The team that moved on to play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. For what I see from their schedule there are only 4 games that they will have a challenge. Those all come in September against the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys Seattle Seahawks, and the Los Angeles Rams. They will once again win the NFC South I see them being 6-0 against the Falcons, Buccaneers, and Panthers.

Atlanta Falcons 9-7 (2nd in Division)

The Falcons had a disappointing season last year. They finished with a 7-9 record. The Falcons went 3-3 in the NFC South. The only team that they beat twice last year was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, they have former Buccaneer head coach Dirk Koetter as their offensive coordinator. Quarterback Matt Ryan flourished under Koetter. Now for this season, there are 5 games that they are going to have trouble winning. I think both the division games against the Saints, the other are the Texans, Rams, and Eagles. The Falcons will be better this season and flip their record to 9-7 and finished behind the Saints.

Carolina Panthers 8-8 (3rd in Division)

Like the Falcons they also finished 7-9 in the 2018-19 season. The season will come around to the condition of quarterback Cam Newton shoulder. Many have said the issues that he is having are similar to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. Luck sat out a whole year after having surgery. The Panthers shut Newton down for the last few games a year ago. The Panthers were also 3-3 in the NFC South the only team like the Falcons beat the Buccaneers in both matchups. I see 6 games that they will have trouble winning. Those games are both against the Saints, the others are Rams, Texans, Seahawks, and Packers. I can see them having one more win this year but that depends on how healthy Cam Newton can stay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-10 (4th in Division)

The Buccaneers came out and won their first two games. Now, this was with backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm. Starting quarterback Jameis Winston was serving a four-game suspension for sexually assaulting an Uber driver. After the first two and a half games, the season went downhill. The Buccaneers did well against the Pittsburg Steelers in the first half and then lost in the second half. The Buccaneers did beat the Saints in week 1 last year and that would be their only NFC South win. They finished 5-11 for the second year in a row.  Now they have Bruce Arians as a new head coach. The Buccaneers have some injuries they may have to overcome early in the season. They have 6 games they will have a hard time winning. Both against the Saints, the others are the Rams, Colts, Texans, Seahawks.
