NCAA: A Look Ahead to the Florida Gators vs Miami Hurricanes
The college football season kicks off this Saturday for many of the major programs. That, of course, includes an all Florida clash between the Miami Hurricanes vs the Florida Gators. This was will be the first meeting since 2013. The Hurricanes defeated the Gators 21-16. This matchup will take place on a neutral site in Orlando, FL. At Camping World Stadium the old Citrus Bowl. Many fans of both sides wonder why they don’t play each other more often. Both the Hurricanes and Gators both play in-state rival the Florida State Seminoles. The two teams have agreed to a future series that will take place in the 2024-25 season. Here is a preview of the upcoming game this Saturday, August 24th.
The Hurricanes finished the 2018-19 season with a 7-6 including their bowl game, a record similar to in-state University of South Florida Bulls. They didn’t do the same thing as the Bulls who set an NCAA record for winning their first 7 and losing the final 6. The Hurricanes would start the season off against an out of conference team. The Hurricanes traveled to Dallas to play the LSU Tigers. They would lose 33-17. After that lose they go on a 5 game winning streak. They beat Savannah State 77-0, Toledo 49-24, FIU 31-17, North Carolina 47-10, and Florida State 28-27. Then the wheels came off for four games in which they would fall to Virginia 16-13, Boston College 27-14, Duke 20-12, and Georgia Tech 27-21. They would win their final two against Virginia Tech 38-14 and Pittsburg 24-3.
The Hurricanes would play in the Pinstripe Bowl against the Wisconsin Badgers and lose 35-3. They have a new coaching staff this year as head coach Mark Richt left the team. Manny Diaz now takes the helm. In hopes to try and get the Hurricanes back on track. Just like last year when they played an SEC team last year this will be a test. The Hurricanes could be a surprise in the ACC. They don’t have to play who many think will win another National Championship in the Clemson Tigers. The Hurricanes should be able to win 7-9 games this season. Most of the fans and coaching staff are upset about how much disrespect the team is getting to start the 2019 season.
The Gators finished the 2018 season with a 10-3 record including their bowl game. Most Gators season start with many little schools that most call cupcakes. This, of course, was the first year under head coach Dan Mullen. Not many people thought the Gators would have a good season. They would come out and defeat Charleston Southern 53-6. The Gators would next host the Kentucky Wildcats a team that they had beaten for many years. They had a 31-year winning streak against the Wildcats will that came to an end as the Wildcats defeated the Gators 27-16. Like the Hurricanes the Gators would have their 5-game winning streak. Those wins would come against Colorado State 48-10, Tennessee 47-21, Mississippi State 13-6, LSU 27-19 and Vanderbilt 37-27. The Gators would lose the next two to Georgia 36-17 and Missouri 38-17.
After losing those tough games the Gators would win out. The final regular-season wins would come against South Carolina 35-31, Idaho 63-10, and Florida State 41-14. The Gators would then head to the Peach Bowl to play the Michigan Wolverines and defeat the Wolverines 41-15. The Gators could be a thorn in the side of the Georgia Bulldogs to win the East. Of course, they are all chasing the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide is like the Clemson Tigers favored to win the National Championship. This game against the Hurricanes will also be a test for the Gators. I am looking forward to a good game.
Prediction: Gators 42 Hurricanes 17
