Los Angeles Rams: Will Jared Goff be in the MVP Conversation?

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff has had an interesting path in his NFL career so far. He was almost a considered a bust after one season because of Jeff Fisher.

Fisher was on Colin Cowherd’s show on Monday afternoon. Cowherd asked him if he was particularly surprised about his development. Jeff Fisher said it is not surprising at all seeing his success.

Sean McVay immediately revived Jared Goff’s career. Goff was the number one overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.  He didn’t even start right away in his first season.

Ever since McVay has been the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, it looks as if Jared Goff is going to capture a Super Bowl Title one day.

He is 24 years old and Goff has already appeared in one Super Bowl in his NFL career. It is hard to get back there unless your name is Tom Brady. However, the NFC is by far a tougher conference than the AFC is.

Will Jared Goff be in the MVP conversation this season?

He completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 4,688 yards 32 touchdowns and 12 touchdowns last season. Goff also rushed for 108 yards on 43 carries and two touchdowns.

There was a stretch last season where he was struggling to throw the football. The Los Angeles Rams have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL.

Jared Goff made some tight-window throws last season that very few quarterbacks in the NFL could make.

It is going to depend on the health of running back Todd Gurley in how Jared Goff will be impacted in the MVP race this upcoming season. If Gurley misses, like, half the season and Goff goes off anyways without him, then I believe he will be talked about as an MVP candidate.

If Jared Goff has Todd Gurley in the backfield most of the season or doesn’t live up to standards, then I don’t see it happening.

It is going to be very hard for Goff to win MVP over Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It wouldn’t be a surprise for me to see him win the MVP award once again and Kansas City is most likely going to have a very explosive offense once again.

Mahomes completed 66 percent of his passes for 5.097 yards 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season. He also rushed for 272 yards on 60 carries and two touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz could be in play for the MVP if he is healthy. Wentz was on his way to winning the award two years ago until he tore his ACL on the road against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14.

I find it hard to believe that quarterbacks like Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) who is 39 years old and Tom Brady (New England Patriots) who is 42 years old, could win the MVP Award this season.

Tom Brady has won the award three times and Drew Brees has never won the award before.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could win the MVP Award for the third time in his career this season if he leads them back to the playoffs after missing it for the past two seasons. Rodgers is 36 years old and some people still consider him one of the best quarterbacks in the game.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has a very good chance to win the MVP Award in just his second season in the NFL. A lot of people are expecting them make a big jump this season. Mayfield appeared in 14 games last season. He completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 3,725 yards 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

At the end of the day, I think Jared Goff will have another very good NFL season for the Los Angeles Rams but it won’t be enough for him to win the MVP. All he cares about is helping them win another Lombardi Trophy for the second time ever.
