Pittsburgh Steelers: What to Watch in 2019 Training Camp

We are fast approaching the 2019 NFL regular season and in just three weeks training camps will begin across the nation. One team known as the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a few things to work on or establish during this period of the year. So, let’s dive into what we should be watching at the black and gold training camp.

1) Devin Bush

The Steelers added another linebacker to their defense when they chose Bush with their first overall pick in this year’s draft.

It’s clear when watching the Pitt defense that they need more playmaking ability and part of that falls on their defense’s ability to sack the opposing QB.

The Steelers’ D had a total of 11 sacks in the final four games of the season, but imagine if Bush wreaks havoc and allows other guys to burst onto the scene more?

Watch out for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense heading into next year.

2) Wide Receivers Coming Together

No doubt it’s rough having to replace the production that Pitt once had thanks to Antonio Brown, but Eli Rogers, James Washington, and Diontae Johnson can become a threat collectively.

Ben Roethlisberger can spread the ball around and discover which of these targets can rise up and handle certain situations.

I’ll be looking for communication and instant success. If Washington can rise up in his second year, the Steelers receivers could make more noise than previously expected by the public.

3) Secondary Stand Outs

No question the black and gold have issues that need to be addressed on both sides of the ball. However, examining their secondary is the biggest issue of them all.

In today’s NFL — whether we believe it or not — defense is still very important.

The Steelers could very well cut Artie Burns if they are not impressed with his training camp/preseason work. They added Steven Nelson and Joe Haden is getting older.

Mike Hilton has made interceptions a reality and should make the Steelers roster again this season.

As far as safeties go, Sean Davis was highly productive last year and the reps Terrell Edmunds gets the more he will be an impact players Pitt desperately needs.

If someone can stand out during camp and provide that extra energy, which can light up a stadium, then expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to be one of the better teams in the AFC this season.
