NHL: Mocking the First 10 Picks of the Draft

We are just one night away from the NHL Draft. The cup belongs to the St. Louis Blues. Now its time for the teams that either didn’t have a good season or were unable to make the playoffs. This could be the night they draft the player that could make them better as the 2019-20 season begins. We will see the new stars of the NHL drafted tonight. Here is a mock of the top 10 picks in tomorrow NHL Draft.


1. New Jersey Devils – C Jack Hughes U18 US Team

Hughes has been called an all-around elite player. His skating, edges, puck skills, vision, and creativity are all above average. He has the awareness at times to embarrass his team opponents. Hughes is a brilliant playmaker. He will help the Devils in 2019-20 season.

2. New York Rangers – RW Kappo Kakko TPS Turku

Kakko is from Finland. He is being called above-average size. He advances the puck very well. Kakko will go to the front of the net and have no problem doing it. He posses’ strong hands and good stick strength. Kakko will be a good addition to the New York Rangers.

3. Chicago Blackhawks – C Kirby Dach Saskatoon

Dach showed off his skills when he was 16. He displays smarts, size, and good feet. All good qualities that are vital on a 200-foot sheet of ice. Dach is not known for his speed but has a good stick and soft hands. He will help the Blackhawks.

4. Colorado Avalanche – C Alex Turcotte U18 US Team

Turcotte is an above-sized center. He has a wide skating base and strong edging that allows him to change directions very rapidly. Turcotte has good puck handling, high hockey instincts, and soft hands. This pick came to the Avalanche via the Ottawa Senators. He will help an already solid Avalanche team that swept the top-seeded Calgary Flames out of the playoffs this year.

5. Los Angeles Kings – D Bowen Byram Vancouver Giants

He has been called a new-age defender. Byram can control the pace and tempo. He also has a high IQ put him at a different level. Byram has good speed, stick and passing ability. He never hesitates to come out of his own end either. The Kings are in a rebuild and Byram could be a key piece in the rebuild.

6. Detroit Red Wings – C Trevor Zegras U18 US Team

This will be the first pick of Steven Yzerman return to the Wings. Like the Kings, the Red Wings are trying to return to greatness. Zegras is the best pure passer in the draft. He is very patient, and his vision and soft touch are also great assets. Zegras will be a big step forward for the Red Wings.


7. Buffalo Sabers – C/RW Dylan Cozens Lethbridge

Cozens use his long step to create speed. He is a complete player with decent size. He has a great release that is both accurate and heavy. Cozens use this skill to put the puck on his teammate’s sticks. The Sabers are getting closer to be a playoff team Cozens will help.

8. Edmonton Oilers – RW Matthew Boldy U17 US Team

Boldy has a good two-way player. He uses his good feet which help him find soft spots in the opposing defenses. Boldy as high puck skills and super soft hands. Connor McDavid needs some help. Boldy will be a good addition to the Oilers.

9. Anaheim Ducks – D Philip Broberg AIK

Broberg posses one of the most powerful skating strides. He comes in at 6’3 and 200 lbs. Broberg comes out of his zone with ease. The Ducks need to also rebuild. He will help the Ducks on the blue line and will be a good pick.

10. Vancouver Canucks – RW Vasily Podkolzin HC

Podkolzin is a dynamic winger. He can make a difference in every game he plays in. Being a lefthanded shot that he fires while on the power play. Podkolzin is a smart player and is always in motion. He will be a big asset to the Canucks next season.
