AFC South: Ranking the Teams by Their Quarterbacks

The quarterbacks of the AFC South have had some great moments. Matt Schaub (Houston Texans), Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts), Mark Brunell (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Steve McNair (Tennessee Titans) have had their moments of glory. However, the current set of quarterbacks in the AFC South have yet to have their moment. Although a couple has come close. Let us rank the division’s current set of QBs.

Marcus Mariota – Tennessee Titans

Mariota has been the face of the Titans for four years. The former Oregon Ducks QB has yet to play a full season in an NFL uniform. Although he has one playoff appearance he comes in as the fourth QB in a competitive AFC South. He will need to have a full season in order to consider the Titans a strong contender in 2019.

Deshaun Watson – Houston Texans

It was hard placing Watson in the three hole. Simply because of his tremendous upside. He will be two years removed from his ACL tear and he should be full go in all offseason programs. If they are able to keep all of his weapons healthy, Watson could easily make his case for the two spot in the AFC South. Hell, I might even say he has a legit case for number one.

Nick Foles – Jacksonville Jaguars

Foles is the only QB in the AFC South that has seen a Super Bowl. In fact, he has a Super Bowl MVP to go with that. Now he takes over a Jaguars team that has not had significant QB play since the like of the aforementioned, Mark Brunell. If they get half of Foles from what they got from Blake Bortles, they will be a much better football team. Therefore they should contend in the AFC South and maybe even the AFC.

Andrew Luck – Indianapolis Colts

Despite being out a full season, Luck is still the best quarterback in the AFC South. When he is on the field, the Colts are a proverbial contender. In his six years in the NFL, Luck has taken the Colts to playoffs four times. He is also 20 games above .500, has 16 come from behind wins, and 20 game-winning drives. The Colts have not missed a step outside Peyton Manning with Luck in the lineup.

Here is how I stack up the AFC South QBs. The division is young and should see improvement in the way they stack up against the rest of the league in 2019.
