The New Orleans Pelicans Will Enshrine a New Era of Basketball
General Manager David Griffin has a plan in place for the New Orleans Pelicans in the immediate future. They have the number one pick in next week’s NBA Draft and they will most likely take Zion Williamson from Duke University.
Speaking of draft picks, they will also get the number four pick from the Los Angeles Lakers as a part of the Anthony Davis. New Orleans could very well take shooting guard Jarrett Culver from Texas Tech or Forward De’Andre Hunter from the University of Virginia.
There could be a chance that they select R.J. Barrett with the fourth overall pick, but the odds are he will most likely be taken by either the New York Knicks or the Memphis Grizzlies. Barrett was Zion Williamson’s teammate at Duke University.
The New Orleans Pelicans will also have a couple of extra first-round picks from this trade. This was an excellent trade for both teams.
The Los Angeles Lakers were able to get the superstar they wanted and New Orleans was able to get a massive return for Davis.
The Pelicans finished with a 33-49 record last season and they finished in 13th place in the Western Conference. It is possible that they could finish at the bottom of the Western Conference Standings for the next couple of seasons but they could very well be a dangerous team for years to come afterward.
Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram are only 21-years-old. Josh Hart and Julius Randle are both 24-years-old. Zion Williamson is only 19-years-old.
Solomon Hill is only 28-years-old and Jrue Holiday is only 29-years-old. Jarrett Culver is only 20-years-old and De’Andre Hunter is 21-years-old.
No matter how you look at it, they will be one of the youngest teams in the NBA next season. Therefore, it is obvious this team has a long term plan in place.
David Griffin was the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers when they won the 2016 NBA title against the Golden State Warriors in seven games.
The New Orleans Pelicans have never won an NBA title before. Maybe David Griffin is setting the blueprint down for it.
This could be a fun and exciting team to watch in a year or two. Especially with Lonzo Ball throwing alley-oops to Zion Williamson.
Lonzo Ball’s dad, Lavar Ball, did not take the trade news well. He heard the news over a PA Announcer at the Drew League. Lavar thinks the Los Angeles Lakers will regret this trade especially since they traded his son away.
In ways, this trade is a lot like when the New York Knicks traded for Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets the season before he hit free agency.
Anthony Davis will be a free agent after next season. However, he hopes he can sign a long term deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Los Angeles is in win-now mode and New Orleans is building for the future.
