NHL: The Top 5 Stanley Cup Finals Goals
The NHL Stanley Cup Finals have begun. There have been many great moments. It could be a play, a player or even a goal. All the teams hope that this event will happen to them. There are teams that currently haven’t won a Stanley Cup. Now the St. Louis Blues are looking to win their first. Here, in my opinion, are the top 5 Stanley Cup Finals goals.
1. Bobby Orr Flying Goal
This might be one of the most famous goals in all the NHL not just the Stanley Cup Finals. This goal took place in 1970 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. It happened in game 4 in overtime. When Orr scored this goal, he and the Bruins swept the Blues. He would go on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. This was the last time the Blues were in the finals.
2. Bob Nystrom’s OT Goal gave the New York Islander their first cup
Coming into the 1980 season the Islanders were already a good team. The issues that the Islanders were having a reputation of being called playoff chokers. The Islanders would defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime of game 8. Nystrom goal began a dynasty. This would be the first of four straight Stanley Cups for the New York Islanders. That feat may never be reached again.
3. Brett Hull controversial goal to defeat the Buffalo Sabers
This goal occurred in the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals. It came in triple-overtime in game 6. The goal game the Stars a 2-1 for the game and a 4-2 series win. The controversial part is Brett Hull skate was in the crease. This goal should have been waived off. To this day the Sabers say they got screwed out of a Stanley Cup.
4. The Phantom Goal
This goal happened in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This goal gave the Chicago Blackhawks their first NHL Stanley Cup in nearly half a decade. The reason they call it the Phantom goal is not a lot of people saw it go in. The Flyers who were playing the Blackhawks all paused including their announcers. The only one that knew it went in was Patrick Kane and he celebrated by skating towards his net in celebration.
5. Jaromir Jagr fakes out 5 Blackhawks
This was in 1992 NHL Stanley Cup finals. On this play, Jagr, the future Hall of Famer juked out all 5 Blackhawks. He would finish it on a backhander past Ed Belfour. What makes this goal special is that overall skill that Jagr showed. In a way this made the 5 Blackhawk players look awful.
Did I get your goal or is there one I missed? Leave a comment below
