USF Bulls Player Profile: Running Back – Johnny Ford
The USF Bulls are preparing for the upcoming season. Last year did not end the way they wanted. The Bulls got off to a hot start going 7-0 in the first 7 games. In the last 6, they would lose everyone. That included a bowl game at Raymond James Stadium where they play their home games. There, of course, have been many changes in the coaching staff and players. I am going to a series of player profiles like the ones I did for the quarterbacks. I am going to focus on the running backs.
Johnny Ford #20
Ford is coming into his sophomore year. He was nothing short of great in his freshman year. Ford ran for 787 yards on 115 carries in 2018. Of course, he also a good running back out of the backfield. Ford is a dual-threat back. He was the one-two punch behind Jordan Cronkrite. His stats from last year was tied for second all-time in USF Bulls history. Ford had three 100-yard rushing games in 2018.
At the spring game, he stood out as the best running back. Cronkrite did not play due to injury. Cronkrite will be ready for the season opener against the Wisconsin Badgers. Ford has also been set up as a wide receiver. Kerwin Bell likes to spread defenses out. He will be a huge part of it. The best part is he still young and might have two more years before he goes pro.
Ford also helped out on special teams. He returned both kick and punts. Just another aspect he gives to the Bulls. Ford will probably be the feature back or behind Cronkrite depending on the situation. This is a good thing for the Bulls offensively on top having running quarterbacks. Look for Ford to have another great year in 2019. He most likely will have a better 2019 in my eyes.
