College Football: Sleeper Teams In Each Power 5 Conference

Each year in the college football season, teams from everywhere come out of nowhere to surprise everyone and have breakout success. This past season almost nobody saw the Kentucky Wildcats having the season they put together. Nobody also would have predicted the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big 10 title game either. Along with that a lot of people didn’t see Notre Dame going 12-0 in the regular season like they did this past year. College football season is full of surprises and sleeper teams reside in each of the Power 5 conferences. Let’s take a look at one team from each of the Power 5 conferences that could have a successful 2019 college football season.

Big 12, Kansas State Wildcats

Last college football season we all saw two different wildcat teams have breakout success. In 2019, I believe the Kansas State Wildcats could have that amazing year. I’m not saying Big 12 championships, but teams like Texas and Iowa State will be on upset alert the week they play Kansas State. This is the first year without Bill Synder and teams will be overlooking the Wildcats, but they could possibly get some quality wins this fall. Personally, I have the Oklahoma Sooners winning the Big 12 with a 12-1 or 13-0 record. I have the Texas Longhorns in second behind them with an 11-2 or 10-3 record. Then in third, I think with people sleeping on them I have the Kansas State Wildcats at 10-2 or 9-3. If the Kansas State Wildcats can finish the college football season with a 10-2 record, they could be in the Big 12 title game. The Wildcats say suffer a loss to Oklahoma, get a win versus Texas, have Texas lose to Oklahoma, and Kansas State loses one out of conference game, they could be in contention to compete for the championship. Kansas State is definitely a sleeper this college football season.

Pac 12, UCLA Bruins

The UCLA Bruins went through some tough problems last college football season. Chip Kelly and company had to endure losing four of their last five games last year, but they have the pieces to finish games this season. UCLA’s freshman quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson got solid playing time, Joshua Kelley showed he could be a good running back, and the offensive pieces are there to put up numbers. On defense, ten starters return to help keep solid stability on the defensive side. The UCLA Bruins under Chip Kelly this college football season could do well and be a sleeper this year. I personally think UCLA can win 7 to 9 games and win a bowl game.

Big 10, Nebraska Cornhuskers

A lot of hype surrounds the Nebraska Cornhuskers this coming college football season. People are saying 10 wins or more possibly Big Ten title hopes. Personally, I have Nebraska going around 10-2 and winning a bowl game to finish the year 11-2. The Cornhuskers and quarterback Adrian Martinez are one more college football season away from competing for Big Ten titles. Nebraska could meet some of the hype this college football season with head coach Scott Frost in his second year, but not all of it in my opinion. Watch out for the Cornhuskers in the Big Ten this year.

ACC, Virginia Cavaliers

The Virginia Cavaliers have a spotlight on them now after what they did last season. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall and Virginia went 6-6 while also closing out with a bowl win over South Carolina. They should be a strong team and possibly win 8 or 9 games in 2019. Next college football season should be great for them with a good quarterback in Bryce Perkins. The receivers are solid, both lines are good, and the secondary is full of veterans. The Virginia Cavaliers are a team to look out for this college football season in the ACC Coastal division.

SEC, Missouri Tigers

To say any SEC team is a sleeper is a bit of a stretch. However, Missouri may be playing for pride in 2019. If the postseason ban stands, then the regular season will be all that the Missouri Tigers will be playing. If so they will be playing their best college football in 2019 this year. A talented, under the radar team led by Kelly Bryant at quarterback, this team has potential. I personally have the Missouri Tigers starting 8-0, then finishing 10-2 on the season. All for nothing except to cause a little college football chaos in 2019. The Missouri Tigers are a big sleeper this year so watch for them to do well.

Everybody has some sleeper teams they believe will do great each college football season. These teams I believe can all do very well in 2019. Watch for each of these Power 5 conference teams to pull out a few upsets and contend for conference championships.
