2019 PGA Championship: A Look at the Second Major

The PGA Tour made a change to the schedule. They move the PGA Championship from August to May. It will now be the second major of the year following the Masters. It took the place of the U.S. Open which now will be the third major of the year. The PGA now has all three US-based majors first with Open Championship/British Open being the last major. The 2019 PGA Championship will be taking place at Bethpage Black in New York. This is one of the toughest courses that the PGA professionals have or will play.

This is not the first major that Bethpage has hosted. It hosted the 2002 and 2009 U.S Opens. If you were not from Farmingdale, New York or didn’t live in the state of New York many didn’t know this course existed. This is state park it has more than one golf course. If you want to compare it to another course it would be close to Pinehurst. The players will be playing the Black course which is the hardest of all the course at Bethpage.

Now, of course, the news this week is will Tiger win? He showed that he could still win a major. He accomplished that last month at the Masters. The one aspect that we saw was the young players on tour seemed to fold with the roars and his move up the leaderboard. Now the question is which young player will prove this aspect wrong this week?

The conditions of the course are good despite the heavy rain. Many players were shocked at how good the course retained water. The course plays at 7,459 yards and it will play every inch of that. Of course, layers believe that different clubs will be important. Bryson DeChambeau said it will be the driver and long irons. While Brandt Snedeker said it will the putter. We will have to see who is right and see if a combination of those will be what the winner has.

In the end, it will come down to who plays the course without making too many mistakes. We can also look at seeing if Brooks Koepka can repeat as PGA Champion. Koepka has the game to do it after finishing second at the Masters. Let us see if a Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Francisco Molinari, and Dustin Johnson just to name a few can win. Also, will there be a surprise winner like a Phil Mickelson? It will be a great week at Bethpage.
