Long Shot Won’t Disappoint As A Fun Summer Flick
Long Shot could be the year’s biggest surprise. Starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, here’s a film that took me by surprise. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. Is it going to be a breakout success like The Hangover? No. Although, the laughs and a genuinely good script, make this one movie to not miss.
I can’t say this is the funniest Rogen film I’ve watched. Knocked Up still takes the cake on that. With that being said, Theron and Rogen have some great chemistry. Not only does this help Rogen look better to play alongside an Oscar winner, we see a more versatile and motivated Theron. Indeed, this is her best comedic performance.
The plot sees Rogen start a job with Theron as a writer for her presidential campaign. The two develop a romance along the way. It’s a pretty straightforward story. There are some twists at the end of the second act. The film does a good job of keeping you entertained.
Long Shot is a laugh out loud comedy. There are many scenes and moments that will hit you right in the funny bone. That’s the sign of a good comedy movie, one that keeps you laughing from beginning to end. Indeed, this film does that. There’s very little downtime in this movie.
Even though Long Shot comes in at just over 2 hours long, at no point does the film drag on. There will be times where the jokes don’t come, but, the story progresses at a nice pace.
There are a few issues, though. One thing I didn’t like was how unrealistic this film is. It’s a movie, there’s supposed to be a few things out of the ordinary. However, a lot of scenes were out of control. The end is extremely difficult to fathom.
On the whole, Long Shot succeeds. Yes, it can be unrealistic, although, the plot and dialogue between the two main characters are well written. It’s rare we get a film that’s both funny and extremely well put together. If you love comedies, Long Shot is your best option for movie night.
