NHL: A Look Inside the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals
The NHL playoffs have been crazy! There were teams that got swept and others that surprised us all. In the Western Conference, in round two both series reached game 7. In the Eastern Conference, however, there was yet another sweep and the other went 6 games. We are now set for the Eastern Conference final. It will be between the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins. Now if you look at those teams most was say it was the Hurricanes that went all 7 and they would be wrong. Here is a preview of the Eastern Conference Final.
The Hurricanes came into the playoffs as the first wild-card team. In the first round, they would defeat the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. The Hurricanes would have to go the distance to dismiss the Capitals. Their second-round opponent was the New York Islanders. The Islander came into the second round after a sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Many had the Islanders moving past the Hurricanes including this writer. The Hurricanes would sweep the Islanders. The first two games of the series were decided by just one goal. The final two games the Hurricanes scored 5 goals in each to dismiss the Islanders. They now move on the conference finals for the first time since 2006. The Hurricanes now face the Boston Bruins for a chance to go the Stanley Cup finals.
The Bruins came into the playoffs finishing behind only the Tampa Bay Lightning in the standings. Their first-round opponent was their division rival the Toronto Maple Leafs. The series went all seven games. Most people thought the Lightning would be their second-round opponent. Well, the Columbus Blue Jackets shocked the NHL world by sweeping the Lightning. The Blue Jackets would be a formidable foe for the Bruins.
The series would go 6 games. The Bruins have now played 13 playoff games. Will this be the difference as they head to the Eastern Conference finals. The Hurricanes have only played 11 so far. The Bruins will have the advantage with their experience. Let see how the series with Hurricanes will go.
