Los Angeles Angels: Halos Might as Well Hand Dallas Keuchel a Contract

With pitching being an issue, the Los Angeles Angels should offer free agent lefty Dallas Keuchel a contract that fits what he feels he’s worth.

It makes no sense for LA to avoid spending money on a pitcher with the resume that Keuchel possesses.

This past offseason, the Angels picked up Trevor Cahill and Matt Harvey on cheap one-year deals. So, why not give Keuchel a contract?

The Angles signed star outfielder Mike Trout and veteran first baseman Albert Pujols to enormous contracts in recent memory, so it’s fitting to go after a starting pitcher with the same level of enthusiasm.

Harvey has an ERA of 6.94 and has three quality starts in seven starts this season. Tyler Skaggs has a 3.12 ERA in two fewer games pitched.

With the Angels sitting in fourth place in the AL West, it’s time to get creative and bring in a steady pitcher for the rotation.

The Halos farm system is nothing to brag about and the club has no trade chips to really speak of.

There are a few benefits to signing with the Angels if you’re viewing this possibility through the vision of Keuchel.

First of all, Dallas Keuchel has pitched in the AL West his entire career. Therefore, he is familiar with a lot of hitters.

Secondly, if he adds to his stock then he could find a better round of offers next offseason.

There aren’t many great lefty starters in the majors. Thus with the current group of Angels’ starters pitching poorly, it would only be wise for the Angels to take a chance with Keuchel.

Other teams should be in the mix for Kuechel’s services. However, the Angels might need his arm more than anybody else.

The Halos are not a playoff contender, but they might be the best fit for Keuchel at this point.
