University of South Florida Football Player Profile: Octavious Battle
Octavius Battle enters the 2019 college football season as a redshirt freshman quarterback for the University of South Florida. He comes from Atlanta, Georgia. Battle went to high school at Carver high school. Like I mentioned earlier he is a dual-threat quarterback. The biggest difference in Battle is his size. He is 6’2 and weighs in 224 pounds.
He had a very good high school career. As a senior, he led Carver High to the Georgia Class 5A state semifinal. He threw for 5,581 yards and rushed 1,272 yards. He was a three-letter athlete football, baseball, and basketball. The good news about him is that he has time to develop. He will probably be the third quarterback on the roster behind Blake Barnett and Jordan McCloud.
Kerwin Bell‘s new system is complex. Look for coach Charlie Strong to use all three quarterbacks again. I know they are not playing Elon, but he could pull a surprise. Battle will be a force to bring down. His size will be his best weapon. If coach Strong wants him to be the best, he can be he will need time.
During the spring game on the second to last drive, he took a unexcepted hit. We all know that the quarterbacks don’t get hit during the spring game. Battle took a hit by accident and while the defensive coaches yelled at the player, it didn’t seem that coach Strong was worried. He went to sidelines and received medical attention, but wasn’t seriously injured. Look for him to be a big part of Bulls’ offense moving forward.
The University of South Florida Bulls are much better at the quarterback position. McCloud and Battle, from what I have seen, put them in better shape than Kean and Oladokun.
