Florida Panthers: The Importance of Joel Quenneville

The Florida Panthers had a not so good 2018-19 season. In fact, it was very hard to play in the same state as the best team in all of hockey the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nonetheless, the fans are upset with how the team has played and wanted changes. At the end of the season, they fired head coach Bob Boughner. Boughner coached the Panthers for 164 games with a record of 80-62-22. To be honest, that record looks pretty good for most. The Panthers organization wanted to make a change and did. They went out and hired former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville.

Quenneville has a good resume. Quenneville has three Stanley Cups. The Panthers are a young team and he needs to be ready to go to work. The Panthers need to do one thing that gets back to the playoffs. The last time they made the playoffs was the 2015-16 season. That year they lost in the first round the New York Islanders in 6 games.

However, with the upcoming expansion draft, it will be a tough road for Quenneville. The new Seattle franchise gets to choose two players from every team except the Las Vegas Golden Knights. He does have the way to turn teams around. The Panthers are going to get a high draft pick which will help. Many teams go through rough stretches and the Panthers are coming out of one. Quenneville will also get the right assistant coaches.

Now for the Florida Panthers fans, it will take some time to get the team back on track. He is the right guy for the job though. Also, the Panthers have the pieces and youth to be a good team. Therefore, the Panthers are moving in the right direction. Quenneville will come in and get his system in place. Thus, if the Panthers buy into that system, they will get back on the winning track.
