NHL Playoffs: A Peek at the New York Islanders vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The NHL playoffs are all set. The Stanley Cup is just 16 wins away. It will be the hardest 16 wins that a team will have to go through. Each team will start with a clean slate. If the two teams played each other during the regular season it means very little. The fourth series is between the New York Islanders and Pittsburg Penguins.
These two teams are division opponents. There is only one series in the Eastern Conference that isn’t. That series is the Lightning vs Blue Jackets. The four games that these two teams played against each other were evenly matched. There were two games won in regulation and the other two in overtime. Both regulation games came in New York and the overtime ones in Pittsburgh. Both teams won one each in the other building.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to get back to the finals. Just three years ago they won back to back Stanley Cups. Last year they lost to Washington Capitals who would go onto win the Stanley Cup. They had another solid season. Many have them getting past the Islanders and moving on for a rematch with the Capitals if they defeat the Hurricanes. The Penguins can score goals in bunches look for them to do that against the Islanders.
The New York Islanders are the surprise in 2019. Under new head coach Barry Trotz, they have been a good team. Trotz won the Stanley Cup last year with the Washington Capitals. He has turned the Islanders into one of the best defensive teams in the NHL. The Islanders like the Hurricanes could shock the world. Many have them losing to the Penguins. If they play like they did this season they should have no problem moving on to round two.
My prediction: Islanders in 7
