Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Talk: Top Three Positions of Need

The NFL draft is less than a month away. Some teams were able to get what they need in free agency. Other teams are waiting to see if they can obtain the players they need that are on their board. One of those teams that need to get players through the draft is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have severe cap space trouble. This is due to general manager Jason Licht decisions from a year ago. They have made some moves to free up more cap space and will probably continue to do that as the weeks leading up to the draft. Here are the positions the Buccaneers need to look at in the upcoming NFL draft.

Edge Rusher

Last year the only bright spot of defense was Jason Pierre-Paul. He had 12.5 sacks in 2018. The draft has two that could help him out in 2019. Both gentlemen played in the SEC. The first is Josh Allen from the University of Kentucky. Allen was a beast for the Wildcats. The other is Montez Sweat from Mississippi State. Like Allen, Sweat was a force to try to stop. Either of them would be great with Vita Vea in the middle in Todd Bowles 3-4 defense.

The Buccaneers let Kwon Alexander test the free agent market. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers. Now the only linebacker from last year is Lavonte David. Like at edge rusher there are two that the Buccaneers should consider. The first and who I believe the Buccaneers will take at number 5 is Devin White. White is out of the LSU. He was a tackling machine for the Tigers. The other would be Devin Bush. Bush out of the University of Michigan was like White. Both would help David, of course. They would also need to make this move to help solidify the middle of the field.

Offensive Line

New head coach Bruce Arians love Jameis Winston. However, Winston cannot keep taking the shots he has been taking. The offensive line will need to make some changes. One of the players that the Buccaneers should be looking at is offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor from the University of Florida. One of the strong points for the Gators was the run game. Taylor was key for Gators in that aspect. The other would be Michael Deiter from the University of Wisconsin. Deiter made 54 consecutive starts for the Badgers. Both would be great in helping protect Winston and helping the running game in 2019.

The Buccaneers have an uphill battle. They have made some minor free agent signings. Although, Licht is staying quiet because of what happened in 2018. The Buccaneers also need help in the defensive secondary. I believe for them to have a successful draft they need to fill all four holes. Let’s see if they trade to free up cap room. If no changes are made it might be more of the same for the Buccaneers in 2019.
