Houston Texans Draft Talk: Top Three Positions of Need

Draft season is upon us. Each team in the NFL is doing their due diligence on whom they want to select. We here at IroniqMedia pride ourselves on the draft coverage that we bring you. In our complete draft coverage, we bring you all 32 teams. Next up in our series is the Houston Texans. Here are the top three needs for the defending AFC South Champions.

Offensive Line

This has to be a high priority for the Houston Texans. Opposing teams sacked Deshaun Watson a league-high 62 times on 2018. This was after blowing his ACL in 2017. Thus getting the young QB some protection must be high on the list.

Sitting at 23 in the first round could be a prime spot for an offensive lineman. Andre Dillard make sense for the Texans. They need to protect the outside and Dillard can do just that. He has a great punch and his feet are always moving. Dillard could anchor the left side from day one.

Tight End

It has been a while since the Houston Texans have had a tight end worth talking about. While the offensive line is a higher priority, tight end will help as well. Giving Watson an outlet will help relieve the pressure as well as protection.

There is two option that could be available for the Texans. If they choose to select a TE in the first round a player like Noah Fant or Irv Smith Jr. makes sense at 23. Fant is a 6’4” 250lb middle TE. He has the ability to stretch the defense and work the middle. Meanwhile, Smith Jr. is more of a pass catcher. He is able to split outside the numbers or work the slot. Either player would be a great addition to the Texans offense.

Running Back

I thought the Texans would have been an ideal spot for Le’Veon Bell. However, the Texans could not swing a deal to land the talented running back. With Lamar Miller in the final year of his contract, RB could be a position the Texans look to in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Getting a player like Damien Harris out of Alabama in the second round would be a wise selection. He is fantastic in pass pro. Something that the Texans need. In addition, he is a very powerful back. Much more powerful than 5’10” 2016lb frame might suggest.

These three positions are tops for the Houston Texans heading into the 2019 NFL Draft. Protecting Deshaun Watson is tops on that list. If they do not, the chance if another major injury increases.
