NHL: Top 5 Candidates for the Jack Adams Trophy
The one prestigious NHL Trophy that doesn’t involve a player is Coach of the Year. It is also known as the Jack Adams Trophy. This the one where the players help the coach. Like the previous articles, all the trophy’s in hockey are an honor to win. Last year winner was Gerard Gallant of the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Here are my candidates for who will win the Jack Adams in 2019.
5. Craig Berube (St. Louis Blues)
The Blues had a rough start to their season. Now the Blues are in 3rd place in the Central Division. With 6 games left they are only 4 points behind the 2nd place Nashville Predators. The Blues have a game in hand which could help them get a higher playoff seed. He coached a team that caught the injury bug earlier in the season. They can make a good run through the playoffs.
4. Jon Cooper (Tampa Bay Lightning)
The Lightning has been the best team since November. They recently clinched the Presidents Trophy for the best record in the NHL. Cooper has been solid at every level he has coached at. He has the Lightning in position to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. The Lightning has used their depth all season. This puts Cooper towards the top of the list.
3. Bill Peters (Calgary Flames)
Peters has the Flames in the driver’s seat for a cup run. Canadian fans are hoping the Flames will end the streak. The Flames had a chance in 2004 but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They lead the Pacific Division by 5 points currently. Peters has found a way to bring out the best in his team. He, like Cooper, should be one of the nominees to win.
Brindamour was a talented player in his time. He has brought what made him a talented player to how he coaches. The Hurricanes are currently in the first wild-card spot. They are 4 points behind the Penguins with two games in hand. They have been a solid team all year. Even if they don’t catch the Penguins, they will be a tough opponent in the first round.
1. Barry Trotz (New York Islanders)
The Islanders are one of the toughest opponents to play against. They are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL. The Islanders are heading to the postseason. They are tied for second with the Penguins. They, like the Hurricanes, will be a tough opponent in round one. Trotz like Cooper and Peters might win the trophy. All 5 could win the trophy.
